I am travelling from Santander in Northern Spain and back through France at the end of the month. We have sorted out our Ferries and our French campsites, however Northern Spain is a new experience for us. We (4 adults and 1 child 6 years old) are looking at staying in a campsite around the Santander/Cantabria area. Does anyone have any recommendations, tips etc that they would be kind enough to share?

It's a fantastic area ... we keep returning.
Check out some campsites in my reviews section.
The Picos de Europa area is stunning .... but, the coast is good, too.
If you have further questions .... let me know.
We are also thinking of camping in Cantabria. Perhaps it would help if you mentioned which sites in Cantabria instead of trawling through all the very good reviews as some us have no idea of locations in Spain. LOL!
kelper what is the weather like there in June / July ? It gets the name of being a wet region, but is that very relative ? Is it any wetter than say, the Vendee ?
Also are the ferry prices similar to Rosslare - France ?
It's an area I'v been thinking about going to for a while now, but it is a long journey; I'm thinking Dublin - Holyhead - Portsmouth - Santander but I'm open to other ideas if you have them.
No need to trawl through loads of reviews ... I was suggesting looking at the ones on my reviews ... Namely: La vVorna; Isla Picos de Europa (both for the Picos area), Molino deCabuerniga, and Camping Cudillero (google it)
Ferry costs to Santander or Bilbao are at the top end of ferries from UK to the Continent ... you need to look at it as more of a relaxing 'mini cruise' ... if you like ships! We have ferried and driven.
An alternative is to get the St Nazaire to Dijon ferry ... cheaper than the Santander/Bilbao option ... and, from Ireland ... it's a shortish hop from St Malo/Roscoff.
Weather in July/August is pretty good ... if in the Picos, you may get the odd cloudy day ... even a spot of rain ... but in several years of camping there, we have experienced very little poor weather in the summer. The green Spain label is due to the copious amount of precipitation during the winter months.

Friends, who have just visited us, had tendays in Cantabria, and one particular site sounded idyllic, beach and small harbour within walking distance. I'll find out where it was and which other sites they recommend, and come back to this post.
Potes area is fabulous...never camped in the region but have visited and it is a stunning area. We found weather wise that once we moved away from the hills/mountains if it was cloudy, it was generally sunny by the coast.
