Hi I'm just thinking about next year's holiday and been looking at people's journeys through France and Spain and I really like the idea of going from Calais to Gibraltar. We will be towing a caravan and was just wondering if anybody has done this and if you have could you answer the questions I have please
1-how long roughly would it take
2-is there plenty of campsites along the way where you could just turn up
3-is 4 weeks a realistic time to do it all in

Hundreds of OAPs go right down there every winter seeking sunshine, and find sites along the way even then. But in mid summer it's too hot in the far south of Spain for most .caravanners.
i visit andalusia every year for a holiday but have never driven there. i always fly because time, and kids dont permit. i usually fly into Gibraltar and its a 40 min drive to my destination (my sisters house).
i am not sure there are too many camp grounds on Gibraltar but if you travel 30 minutes to the west the area is fantastic with many campgrounds and the aforementioned silver surfers living the dream.
i have travelled by motorbike from spain(Navara)through france back to the channel ports by motorbike. and its quite boring (on a bike)i would prefer to get the 18h ferry from plymouth to Santander then drive the 600+ miles to Andalusia then enjoy the better weather and a bit less driving, fuel and road Tolls.
theres no end of camp sites in france so no need to book ahead unless you know where you will be at a particular date and requires something special like a water park etc..
when on my bike i never booked anything but did end up with some very rough camp sites as well as very nice ones. it depends where you end up and how much time you have to find something.

There are no campsites in Gibraltar and avoid, like the plague, those in La Linea and the Campo area. Further up the coast from St Margarita going east are ok
