Spur of the moment thing, never travelled in peak time August before and was just wondering how best to dodge any delays, we just assume there will be delays. Flexible on travel time, early or late, prefer Dover crossing just on cost alone. Can travel Saturday if need be. Anyone got a cunning plan they want to share. We are in a car, the rickshaw is in the garage.

We always cross early morning. Stay just before Dover at singledge lane cl. Travel dov-dunk or dov-cal and never have problems but then we never travel peak.

Cheapest will probably be DFDS Dover Dunkirk on the 2am or 4am crossings. You can book online on their website a day before you travel. Also check P&O website for Dover Calais prices for similar time crossings. Eurotunnel will have their cheapest prices early hrs as well but will be more expensive than ferries.
I think atm both DFDS & P&O have 20% off for car fares so check their websites carefully for the offer codes or register for emails on their websites & you will get the offers as they come in.
Sunday will be the best day for traveling traffic wise. Maybe look at a really early crossing i.e. Between about 3 and 6am if you're struggling with a more civilised hour!
