Off to Tranche Sur Mer in a couple of days. Booked it last year after searching for a site walking distance to beach etc. But now DD has announced she doesn't want to spend time on the beach cos its boring!!! Any ideas for things to do in the area to keep a very bored grumpy 17 yr old happy?
Don't mind driving an hour away. I know a lot will say just let her get on with it and stay bored and grumpy, but it makes the holiday a bit more enjoyable and relaxing for us if she's happy.

I sympathise and agree with her. She may well be right. The only hope is that you have chosen a site where boys from Holland will be there. Our own daughter fell briefly in love with a few of them. Good luck.

Hello. You have a fantastic water park, O'Gliss only 20 minutes drive away. Puy du Fou is a great 'historical' theme park about an hour away inland. Les Sables d'Olonne is a lovely large town just up the coast with plenty of shops, restaurants etc. We stayed in Olonne-sur-Mer last year and are back in the Vendee later this month. My daughters are a bit younger 15, 9 and 9 but I am sure you will all have a great time once you are there.

The Marais Poitevin, the "green venice" is not far away - maybe go on a boat trip there?

If she likes outdoor activities i can recommend this place. Good value as you only pay for what you want to do.

If she's into horses then the Haras (National Stud) at la Roche sur Yon is worth the trip. There are guided tours or you can just wander round and there are regular demonstrations. We all really enjoyed it and that even included our at first uninterested 16 year old son.

After that the Clemenceau restaurant in la Roche serves a lovely lunch or dinner menu. Where the locals eat and again worth the trip. La Roche also has a Galerie Lafayette department store if she prefers shopping

Let her stay inside with laptop / gameboy / whatever floats her boat. No point trying as no matter what you find to do will automatically be unsuitable simply because you found it. Meanwhile you get on with enjoying yourself.

Turning that on its head ask her to research some stuff for your holiday to engage her maybe?

Hard at 17 as stuff with parents will always be "boring" lol

La Rochelle has quite a few lovely little shops if your daughter's into shopping, and the harbour area is beautiful with some great restaurants for lunch.

La Rochelle is well worth a day out - if you have bikes cycle across the bridge onto the The Ile De Ré - very chic place where the stars like holiday. Jonny Depp used to have a place there and my wife quite literally bumped into Bruce Willis there a couple of years ago.

The whole area is served by the Vendee en Velo cycle paths which are safe and traffic free so plenty of opportunities for active sunbathing cycling to different resorts either as a familly or a group of teenagers lead by the blond yet impossibly tanned tri-lingual dutch boy
Unfortunately for teenagers what attracts us adults to the area is the old fashioned charm.

- Just remembered that from La Rochelle you can get the inter-iles ferry that runs from la Rochelle to the Ile De Re', circles fort Boyard (from the TV series) and on to St Denis on The Ile D'oleron.

- In fact - I have just checked their website and you can catch the ferry from La Tranche Port.
