considering the wildfires going on in the med this year i am looking for recommendations for sites that allow charcoal bbq on your pitch ( an important part of our holiday experience!!).. we are looking to explore in the first 7-10 days of our holiday before returning to our old fav spot in begmeil to finish our time away. we were thinking either around saumur/ western loire.. vendee /inland towards poitiers.... or dordogne between bergerac & sarlat?? ANY ideas, recommendations, suggestions gratefully recieved.. ( for any type of site...we will filter out our likes and dislikes once we have some suggestions..just need to start somewhere!!).. we arrive in france on 18th august. Cheers folks

In my experience most sites on the Loire and northwards will allow charcoal barbecues, further south many won't. Everywhere I've reviewed (with the exception of Vert Bord Eau allowed charcoal.

ISTR that ValA (who knows more about this than I) said that local authorities can override any campsite's policy if the risk of fires is high.

Love Beg Meil. Where do you pitch up when you visit?

Agree about the charcoal experience, but sensible precautions need to be applied especially given the variable conditions.

Yes It was me. In the event of very dry weather the Conseil can issue a bylaw preventing fires and barbecues.

Go south - for the weather and scenery - near to the Gorges de l'Ardeche try Camping Le Chassezac which is one site which allows barbecues on the pitch. For most of the season pitches are grassy too, which is rare so far south. Very French ambience, few Brits, good clean sanitaires, smallish pool, riverside setting, and a very cheap restaurant a few hundred metred away !! Nice pizzas on site, too!

thanks folks thought this might be the case this year even if usually allowed circumstances this year may mean none allowed ( looking into borrowing a cadac??!!) will check out that site thanks ValA..sounds like our idea of heaven!! ticking many of the family request!.. Rhj296 we go to Camping Kerroland and have since it was just hubby and me before he was hubby!!1996!!!...just love the beaches there and the town itself just big enough to have a bar/restaurant as an option but not so big as to be overly hectic. Where do you go?
