Hi we are off to Istria in just over a week to Lanterna Campsite. We plan on driving into Pula and also Porec and I wondered if anyone had any knowledge of how easy it is to park and anything we need to know with regards to driving restrictions in the city. Not been to Croatia before and have no idea with the language so don't want to many problems.

As well is two words!
How does a sage know everything about everything? or does he? or does he just think he does?
Remember, if you buy something you bought it, not brought it.
We were in Istria in late August 2012, staying at Camping Amarin near Rovinj. We drove into both Pula and Porec and had no problems parking. In Pula we parked near the amphitheatre, but I can't remember where we parked in Porec. Both towns have lots of interesting Roman remains, and St Euphrasius in Porec is well worth visiting. Rovinj is prettier, especially when approached from the sea in a water taxi.
We found driving in Croatia was fine, and many people speak English, especially in tourist areas like Istria.

We camped at the Porto Sole site just outside Vrsar in 2013. Didn't go into Pula but Porec was easy to drive around with good roads. We parked in a supermarket car park as we were only there for a couple of hours. Think it was a pay & display if I remember correctly. I would recommend a trip into Rovinj, it's beautiful with plenty to see and great views from the church at the top of the hill. Driving in general was fine around the area. You'll have no problems at all with the lingo - most if not all restaurant/shop/bar staff spoke English. We were the only Brits on our site (all Dutch/German/French) and even the staff there mostly spoke English.
A word of advice - try and get to a major supermarket in Pula if you can. The ones in the resorts were very expensive in our experience, even though they were mini versions of one of the main chains (Konzum).
Have a great trip by the way, I'm very envious!!

We are just back from Istria. Driving around was fine really, not much different to anywhere else although they do have weird roundabouts where if you are going straight on they sort of channel you straight through a different lane - it's quite logical but just be mega careful of who has right of way! What route are you taking to get there? You will need a vignette for Slovenia but you can get them easily on the motorway at service stations. I went on the AA website which has advice for driving in every country in Europe - it was really useful.
We were the only Brits on our site as well Granturismo - it was mostly Germans, Dutch, Italian and Slovenian but actually there were cars from all over. I would agree with trying to find a bigger supermarket. Kaufland was pretty good.
I would advise getting a phrase book even though English is spoken, people always appreciate the effort even if it's just two beers please and thank you!
