I'd like to head off to Sunelia Interlude, L'ile de Re in 2018 but I'm told bookings won't open to Nov 2017. This is a first for me. I've always booked a campsite a year in advance to secure good pitches and because we go with another family and like to be next to each other. Do I have any reason to be suspicious? I'm concerned I'll get to Nov and mysteriously it will all be booked up with 2017 visitors already having rebooked and I'll be left with campsite's I'm not keen on and plots next to the bar or toilets.
If anyone has any thoughts or experience with this type of thing I'd be grateful.
Thanks
Tom
Don't forget to leave a review of the French and other European campsites you have visited!
Depends on the campsite. Some give you an option to rebook pitch you are on but will not confirm until following Feb. Some campsites have pitches bookable for whole season & these will have priority over bookings for less than that period & so on.
If you have not used campsite before then only thing preventing you booking your chosen pitch is that a user this yr might have placed an option on it for next yr to be confirmed in Nov unless another user might want to book it for the season.
As one who doesn't book more than a few days ahead (if at all), I like to keep my options open as long as possible.
There may be some special events for which sites will be booked in advance, but I avoid them.
Personally I wouldn't worry or even think of 2018 till then, and if the site I wanted was booked, I'd simply go somewhere else.
------------- Two drifters off to see the world.
I'm tired of reality, so I'm off to look for a good fantasy.
Thanks all for your perspectives, and thanks longcol for your personal experience. Gives me the confidence to 'hold on' for November. Decision made, Interlude it is for next year. Looking forward to the change from Dordogne, Ardeche, Cevennes in recent years. Will keep the holiday fresh.
