Can anyone recommend any good sites between Hook of Holland & Germany / Luxembourg border please ?
We're planning to take our 7-year old in the folding camper for 3 weeks.
Plan is to ferry from Hawrich, on a site in Holland, and then go to Germany to watch the world rally championship in Trier.
Last year we were in Brittaany on the coast - are Dutch coast-line sites comparable ?
Unfortunately, I can't find any sites along our chosen route - maybe I'm looking in the wrong places..there are no Dutch sites in the CampSiteSearch>>Other sites.
Requirements : small to medium site, preferably with swimming pool, no evening entertainment required, in interesting area
Thanks advance of any suggestions

Hi Pete,
I had a look at the ANWB (Dutch AA) site for you & here's a list of 15 top class sites: http://www.anwb.nl/campings/campings_selecteer.jsp If you get your map out again, the town names are in the right hand column. If you click on the campsite name there's a page of details. Where it says "Extra info en foto's" click again, scroll right down and there's a link to the campsite website, right above the adobe stuff. Here's one http://www.marveld.nl/ maybe a bit far north for you.
Here's the list of 3-star campsites: http://www.anwb.nl/campings/campings_zoekresultaat.jsp?batch=0&sort=V7_PLAATS This one looks more like it, it's near Nijmegen, which is more or less en route, isn't it: http://www.hetgroeneeiland.nl/nl/welkom.lp?actief=welkom
Here are the prices: http://www.hetgroeneeiland.nl/nl/prijslijst.lp?actief=prijslijst
There's no swimming pool, but there's swimming in the lake. And a lot else to do from the look of it.
The nice thing about Holland is it's very small and most of it is interesting (and clean, and pretty). As well as the seasides there's the "Dutch Alps" by Maastricht, and the Veluwe in the centre of the country which are both big tourist areas, but you can drive right across the whole country in a couple of hours, so nothing's far.
I had a look at a couple of sites in Norderwijk (one of my favourite seasides) and the reviews said some dismal things about them being full of Eastern Europeans looking for work, which is a shame.
Now if I was going camping in Holland I'd go to the Frisian Islands (Riddle of the Sands etc etc) We saw scads of wild hares there, just sitting in fields watching the tourists. Also lapwings.
If you know about Usenet groups you could go over to uk.rec.camping & ask there. There's a guy called Martin there who lives in Holland.
I can't recommend a particular campsite because I used to live there in a phase of my life when I didn't do much camping. I can still read Dutch quite well though so come back if you need something translating:-) Mind, if you phone a campsite they'll definitely speak English.
Oh, and I just found a campsite search in English here: http://www.holland.com/uk/index.html?page=http://www.holland.com/uk/deals/accommodation/index.html

The Dutch coast is not like Brittany. They are all sandy beaches overhere, nor rock formations like in Brittany, although brittany of course also has sandy beaches.
Tide is much less, although still to take into account when swimming. Als you will find that on most beaches there is more sand in the water, rendering it less/not clear, although it is compleely clean.
As far as campsites are concerned: whereabout are you thinking of? What type of surroundings and what distance from the ferry?
There is a good one just south of Rotterdam in Brielle )old fortified city, old citycentre, the town where the Spanish started to loose, in the end leading to the liberation of the low lands)), "Camping De Meeuw", withing half an hour from the Hook ferry, one in Delft (although i don't know that one myself, it's reputation is good (Delftse Hout).
Another one would be in the east, near Nijmegen. 'Camping Heumens Bos'. Quit OK, although less of my taste. Good sanitary facilities, plenty of space, in a beautiful area (Berg en Dal etc) near the border with Germany.
Or in the extreme south, of Limburg, near Valkenburg, at Schoonbron, "Camping Schoonbron'. large campsite, well situated, also with swimming pool. Hilly area. Border area. Valkenburg is a nice little town, although touristic. Visits to the caves (limestine) made by caving out buildingf materials, with charcoal paintings of workers, visitors through the ages, and used during war periods as e.g. hospital, but longer ago also a hidden church. Visit the Margraten war graves and memorial. An old coal mine. Maastricht (15 minutes driving) is a beautiful old city. Aachen (German town, is quiet nearby). Easy to travel further to the south.
Satying a bot more to the NorthEast in holland, the IJssel valley, there is a very nice ampsite in Hattem,, the domain Molencate; I don't know whether they have a swimming pool (was there early in spring), but there is a municipal pool within 5 minutes walking. Campsite actually situated in the woods, perfect for playing kids, organised in smaller fields, rather intimate.
In Luxemburg I only know some places from long ago, but the most beautiful area, again although touristic, is near Echternach. I have been at the campsite in Consdorf where you can descend into the forest valley directly from the campsite, but staying at the German site seems also happens frequently (a campsite in Echternacherbruck).
Troer is very nearby from here, although staying near Trier is also possible of course. Very long ago i was at a campsite bordering two rivers coming together. Too long ago (15 years old than, by bicycle) to give a good opinion now.
Aparet from the rally championship, visit the 'Barabarathermen'. I know the Kaiserthermen are more 'intact', but the Barbarathermen has more undergound tunnels left, much more fun for the kid.
Anyway: determine what youy are thinking about and i will try to give you more specific information about sites.
