We are thinking about incorporating a visit to Guedelon castle next year en route to the Auvergne. http://www.guedelon.fr/en/

Would like to find/have recommendations for a site nearby to stay at for a few nights. Don't mind travelling up to an hour on the day, but ideally would like not to stray too far from the A71 to keep travelling down. Have found so far:

*Camping de L'Ile (Aquadis Loisiss chain in Cosne cours SL)
*Camping Malaga
*Camping La Saulaie
*Camping-paradis-nature at La Chapelle d'Angillion
*Camping des Etangs at Aubigny-sur-Neve

Ideally would like to book ahead- tied to August. ALso, if there is a lot of other things to see in area, happy to consider a longer stay.

I would think any of the sites on the Loire between Gien and Sancerre - there's one in every village - some simple and some fancy.

We spent three nights at Les Bois du Bardelet, near Gien, on our way back from Narbonne, last week. It is a lovely site and the staff are very friendly and helpful.
It was a return visit to Guedelon for us but still very interesting. Our grandson aged 7 was absolutely captivated by it.

Here are a few suggestions all within an hour of Guedelon
http://www.camping-gien.com/emplacement-camping/

There is also a little municipal at Saint-Amand-en-Puisaye.

I deliberately didn't name individual sites - because some people prefer a five star site with indoor and outdoor pools, a restaurant, and organised on site activities - and some other people prefer a dreamy spot under a willow tree in a quiet site on the river bank. All along the Loire there are both options.

Totally agree Berriow but I can't resist playing at finding sites when someone asks for an area. I google "campground" and they spring up all over the place, simple munis, which we love, to 5 stars which we would would avoid. If I had my way I would be on the way there now, but things have got in the way this year, so I get my pleasure from doing virtual camping.

I'm sorry to hear that you are grounded, because you and I have for a long time shared ideas on the sort of campsites we both like. Good wishes to you.

Thank you for the suggestions. I don't really have a 'favourite' sort of site- We enjoy simple sites and bigger ones the same- depends on what we want to get from that part of the holiday. I was probably thinking towards the simpler end, but location in terms of travel is more the priority here.

Le Bois looks nice, but ends up being quite pricey for the 5 of us. Latecamper your second link looks great, 20 minutes drive, at 22 euros AND it has a lake- we do like a natural swimming point. Although I notice the price list has a 'caution adaptateur'- not sure what that is?

I "think" it means deposit but for what, I do not know.

There is another site, no lake, nearby which has good reviews.

An added bonus maybe the beautiful castle at Saint Fargeau, the nearby village, which has all sorts of entertainment ideal for the castle enthusiast. The website is all in French but has lots of pics. The night time spectacle looks amazing.

Latecamper, that looks amazing, and right up our street. We did the Puy du fou evening show this year (and Khyren last year) so thanks for the heads up. If we go, I will book over a relevant weekend and keep an eye out for tickets. The area could well turn out to be a main part of the holiday, rather than an 'add on!'
