I'm thinking about the Tarn Gorges/Millau for next year. I see most sites offer a riverside pitch which always seem to come at a premium. We'll be going in August and wondered what people's experiences were regarding flies. mosquitoes and other insects? Thanks in advance CC

We have been going to this area for many years.we like camping la belle stole at aguassac 4miles from Millau.lovelu little site and village.have website.
We usually stay at camping Larribal on the way down, it's only €11 with ACSI and you can have a riverside pitch usually. But the flies are terrible, one even nipped me this year, looked it up and it must have been a horse fly. What did keep them off for a while was Raid fly spray. Spray it down each leg and it keeps them away for an hour or so, smells nice too lol

we stayed at le peyrelade about 10 mins from millau, right on the river, canoe hire from site vultures flying above, relatively low key even in peak season
We stayed at Les Rivages this August, not on a riverside pitch, but close. Members of my family do suffer whenever mozzies are around, so we're always on the look out, but on this occasion we needn't have worried because I don't think we saw even one on the whole stay.

Take a look at the site in Severac-le-Chateau it's close to the gorges and just of the motorway. Very helpful and friendly owners and lovely old town. Well worth a look
We're considering Le Peyrelade for 3 weeks next Aug. Any additional info on the site would be appreciated. Hoping for a riverside pitch if there is a particular one you'd recommend. Thanks in advance.

its a fairly small site compared to some suttle entertainment if you wantit, they have a few different theme nights at the restaurant which you have to book such as paella night, no frills pool, it is a bit remote as in not really walking distance to a village or town, but rozier just down the road and millau about 10 mins drive, there is a butchers up the road fruits legumes too but not a lot more, site however lovely location on the river backing on to the gorge where you can see the vultures circling, there is also a dedicated viewing point etc at the top, we were pitched 2 down from the canoe launch riverside which was lovely apart from one night when we had a spectacular storm and rainwater ran down the site under the caravan and filled up the awning so we had to unpeg the bottom of the awning to let water out and stand there in our crocs in an inch of water holding on to the awning till the winds died down, in the morning we were expecting bedlam but everybody else seemed fine so dont choose that pitch
