Berriow....for sight seeing Bordeaux is too flat, the enjoyment is in the activities that are on offer.
I'm with you on the terrain. I like rugged and prefer lakes to the sea any day.
The Louberon has everything you are looking for.
I'm taking my easel next year though.
Le Tedey serves a purpose and is a base for a cycling holiday.
Have you checked out the Auverge...there is a greay site in Chatel Guyon tiny family run site with views to die for ....and its quiet.
You would probably enjoy where we have just been in the heart of Tuscany. Camping Balze, Volterra....stunning!!!

So... I was walking up the volcano in Bali when I was 65, criss crossing India on trains when I was 70, and riding a boat up the rapids on the Mekong river in Laos when I was 75. But I ain't going to Camping Le Tedey despite all your persuasion.
Still camping at 75...good for you and you have an Eriba, they are so cute. This or an airstream would persuade me to go in a caravan.
You have travelled, now write a book and share your wisdom.

I'm singing this weekend with my choir CHORDIALITY. We're singing the SUNSET MASS by Ola Gjelo, its wonderful.

Zip wires and tree top adventure parks, kayaking, sailing, hiking up and down the Gorges du Verdon, Cycling all over ... 75 ... expect to be doing the same at 80 ... lol!
Whilst many of our friends think we're crazy and ought to be booking hotels rather than campsites, we've just ordered a new tent.

Went this year with high hopes based on reviews and comments here as we wanted to try something different. I am afraid it didn't do it for us, though some of the reasons will just be bad luck and personal preference. We prefer the heat of the south and campsites with fewer but bigger pitches.
We are a family of 4 and found that unless you wanted to spend most of your time at the lake/beach or cycling there wasn't much to do nearby (we took bikes and an inflatable boat). We found the beaches away from the site were better (cleaner sand and more space). Our kids don't really want to get involved in the activities and we found lounging about on the pitch was not relaxing.
We also found driving anywhere took ages due to the traffic (peak school holidays).
The area described, the Gironde pennisular bit of the SW coast is mostly for those who want a beach holiday, eating, drinking & generally relaxing. Good for those like myself who are well practised at the art of doing nothing. Activities would be things like surfing in the sea or kite surfing on the lakes. Kids activities apart from beach would things like zip wires, horse riding etc & flat easy cycling. Nice traditional French seaside towns like Hourtins, Montalivet, Soulac etc.
Weather can be disappointing for those who expect it to be hot. In hot spells it can be the hottest part of France high 30s but more typically days are sunny/cloudy with temps in low to mid 20s which many northern Europeans find ideal holiday weather. If it does rain it's rubbish & unlike UK seaside places there is not much to do in wet weather.
We like the area though & go every year for several weeks. One has to like the elemental nature of it though. Sea, sun & wind taking pleasure from walking along a beach that disappears into the distance. Best campsite in the area for me is CHM Montalivet which is naturist. For naturists the area is ideal.
There is Le Jenny very near Le Tedey, this is a naturist resort...its in the environs of the two lakes and the coast.

Yes that is rental & owned mobile homes/bungalows only, no camping pitches. Naturist campsites are CHM & Euronat which are just a few miles apart & Arnaoutchot nearer to Spanish border. It does tend to be more stormy further down the SW coast. We were at Arna in June & we had 40deg temps & later on 3 days of non stop storm. Elemental, you have got to love that to like the area.
Tbf it is better for longer or seasonal stays so you experence all weathers. If your stay is short & you catch the wrong weather you probably will be disappointed.
