Caravan packed & booked to go but just can't get decent personal travel insurance sorted - it seems an awful lot more expensive than usual. Also as soon as you admit to anything medical, no matter how trivial, the premium rockets. Suppose age won't help - hovering just under 60. Has anyone got a good deal?

Red Pennant with the Caravan Club.

Last year the Camping and Caravan Club wanted to add £200 for my asthma. The CAMC just asked if my mess had changed in the last fortnight.

We (63 & 62) have an annual multi-trip policy through a company called Coverwise and paid £39.15 this year, down from £45.24 last year. We have no existing health problems so that probably keeps the cost down.
The policy is with Axa.

You think it is problem approaching 60, wait until you are 70 to see it rise, at 75 goes stratospheric and at 80 you have no right to be alive.

We found the part of the goodie bag that came with the bank debit card, included travel insurance. Adding to it for pre existing conditions worked out to be the cheapest option

Depending on your illness etc, I found Tesco travel insurance very good. I had a serious illness but as I'm more than 5 years in remission, it wasn't even taken into account.

We have a policy with Staysure (recommended by others on this site). However, after himself had a routine abdominal aortic aneurism check we had to pay more. This check is offered to all men in their 65th year and a lot of results come through as needing monitoring (or so we were told in the leaflet), but the insurance company didn't seem to be aware of this.

I think it's a bit of a rip-off. If you have the Lurgi and it is well controlled, that's fine. It's unlikely to cause any problems. What you need insurance for is the unpredictable things - like falling and breaking your wrist, or having had acute appendicitis.

The abdominal aortic aneurysm scan - was it clear? You would have been told immediately. If so, why even mention it? It's like being charged for not having a problem. I had one (clear) and was told that only a very small number of people need follow up.

The C&MC insurance doesn't ask too many questions.

We use Insure and Go, and despite both having two 'pre-existing conditions' we don't consider the annual cost too much.

BUT like everything else, your personal quote may well be very different to mine - like car insurance, two people rarely pay the same premium. The only thing you can really do is to check on 'comparison sites', ring a broker, and google 'Travel insurance for people with (x)' (x being your medical problem). Or, if you have a very specific problem, such as those requiring a specialist nurse, take advice from here. One such nurse managed to suggest a decent insurance for my mum when she had COPD.

Got it sorted with insure&go - clear medical screening, and was also clear what you paid for each 'condition' added.

And thanks for the warning SGThomas - may just have to start the search for next years policy round about now!

I’ve just got travel insurance through Eurotunnel, I have an existing medical condition which I’m still receiving treatment for, when I mentioned this to Eurotunnel they said as long as my oncologist said I was fit for travel then they would insure me at no extra cost. So, for a annual policy for my husband, me and my 17 year old daughter it cost just over £80.

I got really excited until I saw

Maximum age 69
Maximum stay abroad 31 days

Sigh

Insureandgo for us - I can't say whether they are cheap or not because my daughter has a rare condition which means we struggle to find anyone who will insure her!
