Planning a 'round', trip Portsmouth to Caen, camp at Fougeres for a few days to watch stage start then up to Roubaix for the 'cobbles'.Problem is cannot book Fougeres Municipal Canpsitr until April 2018.At which time I think they will be inundated with requests.
Any ideas on campsites near Roubaix and which 'pave' sections best to watch?
Returning home via Zeebrugge-Hull!

Hi Kittiwake, we have only been three times but in 2011 we did the whole race from three bases and used the TGV to get to Paris for the last stage won by Mark Cavendish.
My wife while not a cycling fan at the time enjoyed it immensely and that's why we have done two shorter visits since.
So far as info is concerned once we arrived at our base we visited the local tourist offices for the various stages we wanted to watch as they had very detailed info of the route, the timings, road closures and, very importantly, parking.
We tried to get a mix of stage types and found the whole thing a great experience.
The level of organisation was very impressive and when we went to St Malo a few years later not only was all the parking free so was the bus transport from there to the stage.

Mike

Can't help with the campsite as when we go over for RVV and P-R we use a gite.
Personally wouldn't head into Roubaix as leaving cars around there is iffy.....understand that Alex Dowsett's Dad's car was broken into this year. It's chaotic, one way systems and with the road closures on race day sat nav is no use....well ours wasn't this year!It was an unplanned trip as one of my son's spent the day with two of Sky's carers on the road.....

However, looking at the pave sectors they are using
(hopefully a link at the end of post) and from those I've seen a few thoughts (in no particular order)...
Tempeluve is fairly short
Mons-en=Pevele is a cracking bit (watched 2017 here) but I don't think they are using the full stretch so not sure, but could well aim for here ourselves.
Bourghelles-Wannehain, is a good length I even cycled on it!
Camphin-en-Pévèle, seen the start of it, campervan heaven during P-R at the far end, shame they aren't continuing on to Carrefour de l'Arbre and Gruson.
I think wherever you pick it would be fabulous.

Did come across this map of 2017 P-R sectors recently https://umap.openstreetmap.fr/fr/map/paris-roubaix-2017-les-secteurs-paves_138457#........ which shows just how close sectors are.
We are planning to stop off at a sector on our way to the Alps for the suffer fest!

We usually base outrselves near Annecy for the TDF. Doussard is OK but not brilliant.

Some sites in the alps may have ski lock ups that you can use for bikes. There are some evil b**tards who follow the TDF and go on the sites with vans and steal bikes. YOu wouldn't question someone with a van unless of course you know who the tent owners are.

The Belvedere is a nice site, Annecy. Also the site in La Cluzas...bot hhave lock up facilities for kit.
