I posted on another thread regarding a route to the Black Forest and have concluded a stopover.in the area of Koblenz would be ideal.

We have looked at Burg Lahneck as a possible option. I've read the reviews but would additionally appreciate advice on its suitability for a stop for one or two nights.

We will be towing snd wondered if access to the site was good. Some of the reviews mention its up a steep hill but I didn't note anyone saying it was tricky to get to.

Alternatively if there would be a better stopover option please do suggest. We are travelling in the August school holiday so would need to book. Steve

Not sure if this is too far north for you, but we can recommend Camping am Ahrtor at Arhweiler (about 40 miles north of Koblenz). It is a small site so you would definitely need to book, but access is easy - a straightforward 5 minute drive from J30 of the A61. It is an excellent stopover site and the walled town centre with shops, restaurants etc is an easy 5 minute stroll from the site. We discovered it last year and have reviewed it on here. If you would like any further information, please ask.

Hi bofs, Camping am Ahrtor seems perfect. We've booked for a night on the way down through Germany.

I'll have to find somewhere else for the return leg as they're fully booked the 30th/31st August with a wine festival.

Many thanks

Steve

We stayed at Burg Lahneck on the way back from Switzerland a few years ago now. We just had a tent in the car so didn't notice much about access for a caravan. The hill is steep for walking up but there were definitely caravans on site. Our approach though was to choose an area we wanted to visit for a few days on the way home and then find a suitable campsite rather than just the most convenient one night halt near the main roads. When we were on our way back from the Black Forest we stopped for three or four nights at Cochem in the Mosel valley so that we could visit the wine festival. I guess your approach to stops en route depends how long you want in the Black Forest. Hope you enjoy the trip however you work it.
