I guess it depends what sort of site you want. But if you are happy with a simple campsite in western Brittany which is 300 metres from a sandy beach and has a covered swimming pool but no kids Clubs, no bar, no restaurant and no entertainment, then phone Colin or Adele at Camping Pors Peron and talk it over with them.

I would guess that you've been looking at the bigger sites - many of which have restrictions because they are likely to be full - and otherwise sanitary facilities will be stretched. However, as Berriow says, there are lots of smaller sites where large parties on one pitch are not a problem. Some large sites have no restrictions - we once had seven teenagers and ourselves on one pitch - paying for three extra tents, and the extra people of course!

It will also depend when you're going. As I said, in peak weeks sites may impose restrictions but in low season they really won't care how many of you there are. Peak season tends to be last two weeks in July and first two in August - and extending to the third week of August in Mediterranean and other popular tourist areas.

If you have found a site you like and they have that restriction I would suggest e-mailing them to explain the situation. If you have young children they may be willing to make an exception.

The restrictions are usually to discourage groups or 2 families sharing a pitch not large single families.
Drop them a line and explain your situation.

Many sites, both here and overseas, have these restrictions to discourage large, noisy groups of young adults, whether single sex or mixed. I don't believe that the rules are intended for families and very few sites would be so rigid as to apply them under your circumstances. If they do, would those be the kind of sites that you would wish to stay on anyway? The best thing is to ask - ring or send an email.
