Thank you so much for all the suggestions - lots to consider, and loads of great advice. Have heard about Puy de Fou before but think it might just be a stretch for this year distance wise, but we’ll see. Going to take me a while to work through all the sites! Think a spreadsheet may be in order.... (can’t have too many spreadsheets )

Even if it wasn't a stretch in terms of distance, you may have already left it too late to get i when you're away especially for the very popular evening shows. It does get booked up very quickly!

Don't forget to leave a review of the French and other European campsites you have visited!

That is a very good point that I had overlooked. It is fully booked for the main shows during the school summer holidays.

We booked about this time last year to see one of the evening shows in June and our first choice was booked so we had to take our second choice which didn't involve the cinema show but did include the evening light show on the lake. This was out of season before either the British or French school holidays.

It was great fun, we really enjoyed our day in spite of the heavy rain early in the day and in spite of planning our schedule still ended up walking of thousands of steps, we collapsed into our bed tired but happy!

Apparently our friends booked in early December and there were only a few weekends left in the summer months. You can still book now for mid week or out of season, but all the premium dates when the main shows are on are fully booked.

The french Jura is really nice also. We loved it around lac de chalain.

Also consider Belgium. It is not too far from Calais and there are some nice theme parks for the kids and Bruges for the grown ups.

Really fancy the Jura but not the drive this time. Definitely on the agenda for the future though when we can go for longer.
