We are thinking of spending two weeks at Lake Garda this July/August.
I am trying to find the best route which avoids tunnels as much as possible. The route viamitchelin give me is Stuttgart, Innsbruck, Brenner Pass but I'd like to ask those of you who have done it. Also this route seems
Also any recommendations on campsite for a folding camper 2 adults and a 12 and 14 year old.
Thank you

Camping Nanzel just outside Limone - about 15 mins walk into the town. A lovely site right on the lakeside with terraced pitches, shop, cafe/bistro, dining terrace over the water and good clean facilities. I've been there twice and wouldn't hesitate to return

Our route was Calais to Montmedy for an overnight. Through bottom of Luxembourg for cheaper fuel. Then on past Stuttgart to Ulm, we had another night at illertissen then used Fern Pass and on to Innsbruck and the Brenner pass onward to Garda the next day. We stayed at Camping Baia Verde in Manerba del Garda. Thoroughly enjoyed the drive down and the site. Came back through St Gotthard tunnel and up through France.

As to route we tend to use the Fern Pass and the Brenner Pass into Italy and the motorway takes you down the eastern side of Lake Garda. The route to Innsbruck via Munich is slightly easier but longer.

We have decided to go via the Fern pass and Brenner pass.
We live quite near to Dover so were going to get a early ferry and do a big push day one, but as were towing a trailer tent we now need to look for a safe overnight stop maybe a bit before the fern pass.
Sadly camping Nanzel is fully booked and so I'm still looking at campsites :) so excited its our first big adventure (we usually go to Norfolk and Cornwall - nothing wrong with these lovely places but nice to try something different!!)
If you are going via the brenner pass then i can recommend Camping Seiseralm on the way.
I havent driven the route that you are planning but hired a car in italy and did some touring with a tent. It would seem a shame to drive past the mountains without taking a look. This campsite had the poshest shower block i have ever seen. Built under ground to meet planning restrrictions. You can then get a cable car up to a platau with meadows( the seiser alm) with stunning views of the higher dolomites.
Gee, for your first trip abroad I would suggest that you go gently and call at interesting places along the way - we paused at Luxembourg, Alsace, Lake Constance and the Austrian Tirol. It may well mean a week at Lake Garda instead of a fortnight , but that might not be a bad thing - with four of you in a trailer tent you may well find it very hot there in August. Even in a caravan with windows open and fans blowing during an August heatwave we fled up into the mountains. But as you say it will be a big adventure.
