We were looking at the possibility of going back to Rudesheim am Rhein this year, which costs around 30 euros a night. We could use the CAMC vouchers for low season (outside July and August), which would therefore be cheaper than paying direct, but would make no sense at all to use the vouchers high season.
I asked about advance booking, and the answer was that basically it was worth contacting the site, explaining that we would be using the vouchers and asking whether they would accept an advance booking. When using the vouchers, high season for all the CAMC voucher sites (ie all the sites in their overseas brochure) is July and August, low season all other times, so they can be used at Easter.
At certain times of year, with specific sites in mind it may be worthwhile using the vouchers, or buying them for the reduction in ferry costs, but I would definitely be doing my research first..
