Hi there
Looking to head down to the Ardeche area for the last 3 weeks of august and currently scouring the area for suitable sites. I have trawled through various threads that have been posted here over the last couple of years and now have a few ideas (thank you all!) but still a few questions.
The biggest thing on my wish list is pitch size - we have a large 7 seater car with trailer, 6 berth tent + pup tent for my 14 year old, and 4 bicycles to squidge onto a pitch. I realise it's a busy area and campsites will be looking to maximise business, but which campsites offer generous pitch sizes? Ive been looking at Camping Provençal, Mondial, Domaine L'Esquiras, and Camping Gervanne in Drome.
Also which would be the quieter? Really not fussed on onsite evening entertainment but now my 2 girls are older they need a site with a few more activities during the day with a good mix of nationalities.
Thank you.

L'Esquiras is more quietly situated than Provencal and Mondial which are on the busier road which leads to and from the Gorge de L'Ardeche. We've stayed on Mondial years ago and the pitches were big enough for our caravan, pup tent, with car on the pitch, and three bikes. I don't know about Gervanne in the Drome. There are reviews about both Mondial and Provencal if you use the campsite search, but none for Esquiras. There is a review on a Dutch camping website which mentions small pitches.
Have you used the campsite search on here to look for other sites? Some friends of mine like Camping Beau Rivage which is also just in a bit quieter situation, and from the website looks to have good size pitches.
There are some very large pitches at Mondial and we've seen some huge units there.
When you've narrowed down your search, it might be worth emailing the sites and asking if specific large pitches can be booked to accommodate your kit.
I know exactly what you mean; it's not just about the tent but about fitting the rest of the stuff on the pitch without it feeling intrusive, especially when you've a pup tent and trailer to consider. We did once have to pitch our car in front of the tent and it wasn't the best possible view to have when eating dinner! Another time, we had 2 pup tents with us and, try as we may, we just couldn't fit everything on the pitch.
Worst-case scenario is that you may have to leave your car in the overspill carpark (if the site has one). I don't think you'll struggle at Mondial though, if you notify them you need a large pitch.
We returned to Camping Domaine de Gill, three years on the trot, we liked it so much.
Located at the small village of Ucel within walking distance of the Spa town Vals Les Bains, and just a 1€ return bus ride to the bustling town of Aubenas some 4km away.
There are some reviews on here, and a whole bunch on Zoover the Dutch forum.
The campsite was going for 5 Star accreditation back in 2011 from 4 Star, although I don't know if they ever made it.

Thank you both for your replies.
Val - yes, this site is my bible when it comes to campsite searches, I could easily lose hours here reading reviews! It's a brilliant resource. I will check out Beau Rivage - i probably have read the reviews but I've read so many I can't remember!
Lidds0 - it is tricky, we live in a small quiet village so my ideal campsite would be a field with beautiful view, with just a smattering of neighbours and maybe a pool or somewhere close to swim. The thought of being packed in on a large camping estate really doesn't appeal. However, now my daughters are older they enjoy all the activities these larger sites offer so I know we have to compromise, particularly as we have to go in peak holiday season. Just have to bring ear plugs and drink lots of the local wine!
France is so beautiful and diverse though, and I'm really looking forward to exploring this region with my family.
