Hi,
Looking to go to Moselle Valley in Germany any campsite recommendations. We are camping in a tent so somewhere with a nearby supermarket would be good. We also like walking and will have our bikes. Any recommendations?

Will be using ACSI camping card, but have heard that they charge you for how many KW of electric you have used. How do they calculate this... does each pitch have a meter.

In our (limited) experience, some sites in Germany make a one off charge for electricity but the majority charge per kilowatt and it is metered by the campsite. With ACSI you usually get an allowance of so much electricity and anything over that is charged at the site’s going rate.

Not Quite the Moeselle Valley, We have always Stayed at Camping Kyllburg

This is in he Kyll Valley of the Eiffel, with a Station and bus stop close by, and it takes ACSI Card (Elec. included). We have Kayak down the River from the Campsite to The next Village (Bitburg-Erdof) and got the train back.

We have used this as a base to Visit parts of the Moselle Valley, incluing Bernkastel-Kues and Hangeseilbrucke Geierlay, as well as trips in to Trier and Luxembourg.

Please note that the Campsite has Changed hands in January, We have not returned since, but eitherway a cracking little site.

I hope this helps

Not sure about tents, but there is a nice site in Bernkastel Keus.   However, let me suggest that you look nearby to Saarburg which has 3 very good sites, good shops and restaurants. One of my favourite destinations.

One big attraction is that you can get a Rhineland Pfalz train ticket which gives you unlimited travel for around €30 for 2 people per day. Additional people cost around €5. This covers the Rhine from Mainz to Koblenz, the Mosel from Koblenz to Trier and the Saar from Trier to Saarbrucken.

Trier is OK, but not an awful lot there, but I do recommend Koblenz where the Rhine & Mosel meet.

We have only used a couple of ACSI sites in Germany but at both of them the EHU was included in the price.

Try Camping Erden in the small village of Erden, 6amp EHU included in the 19euro pitch charge or you could do what we did, paid an extra 3 euro for a larger riverside pitch with 16amp hook up, the only problem I had to connect up to another 25mtr cable to reach the EHU point 35mtr away. Site is next to the Mosel cycle track with a few nice bars to stop off at and plenty of walking in the hillside vineyards. Shops 4 mile away or 8 miles to larger supermarkets at Bernkastel - Kues but there is a bus you could get. Good fruit and veg shop in village with plenty of wine merchants for local Mosel wine. Good well run, clean site, nice bar with food, small basic shop (milk, bread and a few other things) with some cheap local wine. We had 7 nights in June 2017 and we are going back again this year, our German friends book us the pitch.

We stayed here for a week, some years ago. We had a riverside pitch, which was great ... the cycle path along the river bank was on the other side of the fence ... easily accessible.

Good restaurant I seem to remember.

We Really Enjoyed Trier, whilst Camping, we only had the day there,   I had cellulitus in my leg at the time, and it was painful and an effort to walk so we didnt see Trier to a fair and full extent.

However on the basis of our brief Visit, we planned to revisit, which we did in January 2016, Which we spent 3 Days in a Hotel, (Mercure opposite the Porta Negra - 40 Euro's a night) and we throughly enjoyed our time, with plenty to entertain all audiences, Eg Historical sites, Karl Marx Museeum, Good shopping, plenty of places to eat and drink, Riversides walks etc.

I would happily return again.

Back to ACSI, we have never had the bill split into its various components, (In Germany or Else where)   Campsite Price Lists tend to be itemised, but you just pay the standard ACSI rate.   The Only Extra is Tourist Tax, which has only ever been a few pence.

I hope this helps

I have stayed in Cochem twice, the first time when I was in the Army back in 1985 and then again in 2014. I stayed on the same site which had changed very little, but was still good. Only a short walk into Cochem which is a lovely little town with plenty of bars and restaurants. There is a decent supermarket nearby and swimming pool/water park nearby too. Another bonus is that the site is right on the river.

I was there last December looking at the Xmas markets in the area. Cochem appears a pleasant enough town, and as I recommended earlier, it has a train link to Trier one way, and Koblenz (and the Rhine) the other way.
