Have finally decided on our holiday.
Arrive Into Roscof would like to stay first three nights around St Naizaire and La Baule Area.
Staying 10 nights in Dordogne like the look of le Caperyou but are open to other suggestions. Don’t need loads of entertainment but would like a pool. Like to be close to a town or village for shops etc so there can be days we don’t need to drive anywhere.
Staying three nights in Loire to visit Château Villandry and Chenonceau on way back to Cherbourg.
Two adults with caravan, so don’t really need big sites for three night stops
Welcome any recommendations.

Assuming you haven't got one, have a look at the ACSI Card website (can't post a link) for details of sites in all the areas you want to visit. There are some lovely sites in the Dordogne, with good reviews, from just 11 euros per night! Many more at 13, and 15 - and that's for pitch, two adults, car and caravan, awning and electricity. You can then decide if it's worth buying the guids and card.

Thanks Val. Have looked at it and registered but to me there seemed to be two different cards not sure what one to get. Is that right? If so what would you recommend?

The ACSI Camping Card - and the guide, plus the 'App' if you're an App user. We're not so we don't both with the App. The ACSI ID card is a bit like a 'Camping Carnet' and gives you an alternative ID to a passport, and some third-party camping insurance.

Of course there are always the smaller municipal sites, which are generally just outside a town or village - and therefore walking distance to shops, bars, restaurants, etc.

Don't forget to leave a review of the French and other European campsites you have visited!

In the Loire for Villandry (about 5km away) and Chenonceau (approx 45 mins using A85) I'd recommend Le Sabot in Azay Le Rideau - and Azay's chateau, one of the most elegant in the Loire, is next door to the site.

A couple of years ago we travelled down all of the Loire Valley and Azay le Rideau is my favourite chateau. Le Sabot is a nice site too.

I can recommend 2 sites.
Camping couleours du mond at Faverolles sue Cher which is close to Chenonceux, we cycled there. Near to Loches and Blois with lovely chateaux. The site is very nice and friendly with big pitches and a restaurant and pool.
The next one is camping Le Paradis at St Leon sure vezere which is a 5 star plus site at Acsi price truly beautiful in every way, just look on their website. Although it's not a close walk to the village you can walk down during the day and a few lovely restaurants. Very Close to lots of places for days out, local markets, canoeing and the wonderful Lascau cave at Montignac. The pools are lovely, they have a restaurant on site and a good shop. Pitches are good size. We go every year it's so good.

Worth checking if the work on the chateau at Azay is finished - they were doing a big refurb when we visited in 2016, although it was still open.
Not tried them but have heard there are some nice muncipals on the Loire near Chenonceaux.
Also want to say how much you will enjoy these two chateaux - thought I would have a job persuading my husband a like me, he was dragged around these sort of places for hours as a kid! But he loved it - there's a brilliant exhibition on the top floor gallery of Chenonceaux and their cut flowers are amazing (that sounds weird but you'll see what I mean!)
some of the gardens at Villandry can be difficult to access if it is a weekend when they've got the light shows on, although you may want to visit for these alone.

The campsite le Caperyou is a beautiful and one of the best locations we have stayed. The owners speak excellent English which helps us alot. Our pitch was right by the river. We would stay again in a heartbeat if ever we get the chance.

Completed in June 2017 according to the Chateau's website

Can recommend Camping La Fontaine, an ACSI site North West of St Nazaire near Guérande. ACSI no 1508 and just 13 euros per night.
