We are considering moving into Italy from France as part of our annual 3-month tour. Can anyone suggest how to see Milan? Not sure if there are any sites near the city, but perhaps there are sites with good train/transport links - we would not consider driving into the city!

There is Camping Village City of Milan which is just inside the outer ring road, is that far enough out for you? Monza Camping and Camping Playa Valverde are both just a bit further out.

There are trains from Como and Lecco into Milan if you are staying on either arm of lake Como - best trains from each place take about 40 minutes

We visited Milan whilst camping on Lake Garda.

Just took a train.

Anywhere within an hundred miles of Milan, with a railway station, will make for a pretty pain free experience ... plus, you get to see a lot of countryside as you travel without having to drive!

Once you have arrived at your Milan station, it is a good experience to take the buses rather than the Metropolitana.

Look out for the "il lampo nero" (black lightning). As the bus arrives at the stop, suddenly nuns will rush out of a shop doorway and trample on all and sundry to board first .

If visiting La Galleria off Piaza Duomo, go to the centre, under the dome. The floor mosaic will have slight depression on the tiles representing the bull's penis. You need to place your heel on the spot and spin round for good luck.

Some interesting replies there!! We were thinking of Lake Como too so perhaps Milan will be do-able from there.
