To save on costs, we've decided to keep our caravan in Spain. There is one thing that concerns us. The caravan is insured whilst in storage & when taken to & from the campsite, but it's not insured while on the campsite. Spoken to a couple of insurers but they do not do temporary cover for just a 3 week period. Lady luck is never on our side (had tree fall on us while on the way back from Newcastle, pigeon smash through front window, foreign lorry scrape along side of caravan!). The site we go to gets quite windy & it's sods law something will come hurtling through the air & hit our van. Does anyone else who stores their van abroad manage to get temporary insurance cover?

Who do you insure with? We insure our caravan which is stored in France with Towergate and that provides insurance whilst in storage, and whilst sited on the campsite. Third party cover is under our car insurance whilst being towed - and breakdown is covered by ADAC under our Partner Plus policy (no longer available to new UK customers).
Our insurers are Clubcare (C&CC).
The insurance is included in the storage fees, that's why we only require temporary cover for 3 weeks while it's away from storage
Our caravan is 'insured' too whilst in storage, by the campsite owner's insurance, but to be safe rather than sorry we would rather pay an annual insurance which covers us for all circumstances. Our caravan isn't worth much these days (being eighteen years old) so the policy doesn't cost much. It might be worthwhile contacting Towergate to see if they offer temporary cover, and if not to ask just what full annual cover would be.
Towergate for us too. They seem to be about the only company to cover vans kept abroad and seem quite flexible in the various types of cover they offer.
We are in same situation and recently contacted Towergate, who wouldn't insure just the times on site and said I couldn't insure something twice.
I believe the site we normally use are able to arrange something, but if you use different sites that could be a problem.
