The problem with a steel dish is that they are slightly less efficient than a aluminium dish, of the equivalent size, and like you say a steel dish will be that little bit more heavy.

We use one of the Aldi/Lidl bicycle workshop stands as a mount for the dish.

The advantage over a regular dish tripod is that the bike mount allows you to rotate the dish smoothly, and then lock into position with the QR Lever.

Also the bike mount stands around 1m and can go to just over 2m if required.

If you are heading down to the French Med, then dish and LNB choice can make the difference, I would avoid using a Sky reciever as they can be quite deaf, unless you happen to have one of the early Panasonic or Pace Javelin 2000 units.

We use a Humax Freesat+ 320gb HD PVR, bought secondhand back in 2008, but it's a little belter.

My virgin to go app just informed me on startup that all tvgo content can now be viewed anywhere in the EU. Since BBC channels are included in I guess these can be viewed too?

For a little Radio4 in the evening and Radio2 over brekkie the 16gig data alliance should suffice where 3&4g coverage exists

It will be augmented by site WiFi and timed across 2 months data allowances so 32gb really but radio takes much less to stream than tv

Francais
not sure which sky box I have but its pretty early as its scart. Maybe Thomson rings a bell? I know our Amstrad wouldn't work as the signal strength software was omitted. In Lloret I could get the programme guide but not quite enough signal for programmes.

Currently in Spain, and Easyview tv is an alternative to tv catchup, and has many more channels.

Yep mbarry215, Thomson was another brand for the Sky+ Box, that takes me back to the days of the analogue TiVo box as that was also from Thomson, the Tivo box used to be sold with the early Sky digital box's before the days of Sky+.
At the time the Tivo box was quite an amazing bit of kit, although it was the size of a breezebloc and never really caught on.
