We've been looking at sites in La Grande-Motte / Le Grau du Roi area and reviews seem to be on the poor side for everyone we've seen. Can anyone recommend a site for us in the area? We are touring with a caravan.
Thanks.

The website shows Ludine & Cyril as the guardians, but they have been replaced in 2017 by Jose and Nadine, who used to run La Coronne in Valreas. A very friendly helpful couple.
An option might be to camp down the coast at St Maries de la Mer - we stayed at La Brise a couple of years ago in early September - direct beach access aand decent facilities.
Easy to explore the Camargue from there plus easy to get to Arles for the Roman remains etc.

Yes we have looked at St Maries de la Mer and there is a gipsy festival on just after we arrive there which could be great if a little busy. I think we'll have another look, thanks.
There are many many thousands of gypsies visiting St Maries de la Mer, in May each year, so make sure you.know what to expect. It's not for the faint-hearted, the easily embarrassed or.the squeamish, and definitely not for those who don't like crowds.

We were there a few years ago during the Gypsy festival and mostly enjoyed it, although there was one unpleasant incident (my elderly mother-in-law was jostled in the church by a rather aggressive man and when my OH remonstrated with him it got a bit nasty and a priest had to intervene!)
Be aware that many of the towns' shops and cafes are boarded up during the festival to avoid damage.

I know these sites I am going to recommend are not really in the carmarque but they are within easy reach and have the advantage of being near (walking distance 5mins) of a really lovely town namely St. Remy de Provence. They are le Bastide and Pegomas. We tend to stay at either well recommended sites and take days out to visit the Carmarque which can be, depending on the time of year, festooned with mossies. If you do go to these sites you will find so much to do in the area and Aique Mortes is only 45k away easily visited in a day and you can’t beat a visit to Arles where you will find the best roman ampitheter outside of Rome. Take a look!
