Hello
Please Help
I am considering a trip to Eire this summer and would appreciate any input as to places to stay/visit, ferry costs, recommended camp site's anything really to get me started.
Looking online seems to give mostly kinda negative reviews but i am keen to visit.

Thanks.

A simple Google search is all it takes.
Places to go / Things to do / Where to stay / What's on / Search.
It's all here in the link below.

Ferries to the Republic run from Liverpool and Birkenhead in England, and from Holyhead, Fishguard and Pembroke in Wales. If you choose which route you want and which dates you want you can find prices of those ferries on line too. Good wishes. I hope it goes well.

I guess you've already looked through the UKCS Sites List for RoI?

The Irish Caravan and Camping Council also publish an annual booklet.

Other sources of information might include Bord Fáilte/Fáilte Ireland, and as suggested the ferry operators Stena Line and Irish Ferries.

It is actually a big country. Decide where you want to go and see and we will help. As Berriow said start with getting there. Try Irish ferries and Stenaline from Wales. P&O and Stena from Scotland. Depending which port you arrive will determine routes and sites. If you want to head West you will have to split the journey. You don't say if you are in a tent, MH or caravan. Some of the roads are narrow and twisty.
Campsites are usually good with decent facilities. Prices are more expensive than the UK for everything. It isn't a culture shock though.
Oh, and people over here don't call it Eire

It would take weeks if not months to do it all properly. Kerry in the south west is the most popular county, but also consider Donegal in the north west, lovely beaches, great music, but I would say that as OH comes from a little village called Rosbeg near Ardara. Form there you could also go over the border to Northern Ireland, either Fermanagh or Antrim.

I wouldn't bother with Galway, we didn't like it at all.

Goodness, I wouldn't even know where to begin suggesting places to go! I was born and brought up in Northern Ireland and spent most of my holidays in the South growing up.

I think my favourite holidays in the South have probably been either around County Kerry or else right down in County Cork. Some beautiful coastline in both places but remember, on the Atlantic coast the weather can be the most unpredictable. The south east of Ireland has slightly more predictable weather but in my opinion, not quite as nice scenery. I have spent a few holidays in County Waterford which was nice too.

Coming from the North, I am probably a bit biased but I don't think you could go wrong in holidaying on the north Antrim coast around Portrush, Portstewart, Portballintrae, Bushmills. There is so much to see up there. I know that the coast road between Castlerock and Portballintrae is lined with camp sites so you shouldn't have difficulty finding somewhere.

Sorry, I can't give advice on specific campsites as we always stay with family or friends and have never taken the caravan over but if you can narrow down where you would like to go, then I am sure others will be able to recommend sites.

I'd be inclined to ferry into Northern Ireland from Cairnryan ... then:

Do Belfast ... Titanic centre/Folk Park et al ... really has a lot to offer ...

Head up to the north coast ... along the amazing coastal route ... see the Giant's Causeway ... then on to Derry/Londonderry ... lots to do and see and don't miss the city walls guided tour ...

Then into Donegal ... so much to see ..

Then potter down the coast (short diversion into Enniskillen and the lakes) ... on to Sligo ... Connemarra, and (yes) Galway City is worth trip ... and the ferry over to the Aran islands for a day is brilliant.

Then on down ... stopping as you like ... Limerick and down to Kerry ...

Then across to Cork ... Waterford ... and end up getting the ferry back from Rosslare to South Wales ... or ... if you have time ... shoot up to Dublin for a day or two and ferry back from there.

A lot depends on how much time you have, and whether you like to be 'on the move' or really get to know a specific area.

Weather in Ireland can always be a bit 'hit and miss' ... glorious when it's warm and sunny ... and ... well, there are a lot of pubs when it is not!!!

Agree, its too much to do in one visit and you will have to decide!
Just a few thoughts.. Main roads are generally good now but everything radiates from Dublin so IMO it takes longer to travel north to south.
My daughter lives in Westport, Co Mayo. Beautiful. Galway is great..recently visited the Cathederal. If you want to live the high life and can afford it ..afternoon tea at Ashford Castle, Mayo is stunning. On TV recently.
Thats the mid west sorted! But we loved the south west.. Cork and the coast are brilliant. Courtmacsherry was lovely.
Enjoy the pubs, the music , the people and dont expect a sun tan, although I did get one last July.
