We've booked a crossing with Brittany Ferries this summer. We've also started looking at new caravans, and we are very tempted by one in particular. Just wondering - do we need to let BF know if we swap our van before the holiday, or does it make little difference? The new one would be slightly longer than the current caravan but not a lot. I suppose I'm wary of getting charged some sort of extortionate admin fee for something that is probably trivial. But equally we don't want to find ourselves turned away from the port!

Looks as if you can avoid the admin fee by amending on line?
"An amendment fee of £15 is payable for any change to your booking made between the time of booking and before 5 days of your outward travel date, if made through the call centre or at the port in addition to any price increase that may apply. During this period amendments made via the internet will not attract an amendment fee. All amendments made within 5 days of your outward travel date until your booking is completed, including those made via the internet will attract an amendment fee of £25. Promotional fares (including Spanish mini cruises and 24 hour returns) attract specific amendment fees detailed in the promotion."
Policy to inform them, last year at Portsmouth, the check in woman came out and checked the length of my daughters van with a measuring tape. She said she thought it looked longer than the 6.93 meters booked in as. It wasn't, but don't know what would have happened if she said it was.

I think you'll find that if you booked the length of your van as, for example under 8m and your new van is under 8m it won't make any difference. You only need to tell them if your new van is over 8m, you will have to pay extra. All they are interested in is the length of the unit. If you are concerned you can put your mind at rest by giving them a ring.

You will need to let them know if it's longer than you're booked for. Brittany Ferries are very strict and you will end up paying higher fees if you don't tell them. Best to pay the extra up front.
