Don't forget to leave a review of the French and other European campsites you have visited!
We live in Silverstone and our experience is that by late Sunday afternoon and evening pretty well everything is over and most people have gone. A few will stay over to the Monday, but I guess there should be spaces. Your main problem is likely to be the traffic in the local area. If you are able to delay by a day, I wold opt for that, but I know that is not easy when travelling. Try going further or stopping sooner. You should find it easier then.

Yes was thinking it might start clearing Sunday ,we won't get there till early evening but if full will have to go lower down, originally was going to use Beaumont sur Sarthe but that will be the same I think, will have to look for a site a few miles lower.....or pull up in a supermarket car park 😁😁😁😁

I rather liked the campsite in Alencon north of Le Mans on the A28.
The campsite was a little quiet and underused when I was there but perfectly presentable.
You can get to a beautiful little river through a gap in the hedge and then a gate behind the children's play area and from there walk into town if you so chose.
Le Mans seems to be all traffic jams and industrial areas, not a place I'd choose to stop at.
