Problems with migrants outside Caen port were highlighted on the TV yesterday. Has anyone travelled back to the UK recently via Caen, were there any problems?
Thanks

There are issues at the minute with migrants trying to leap onboard lorries which may get stopped at traffic lights in the town. There has been some mention too of motorhomes. Can't find any issues of Riva Bella camp site having problems
They where at Le Harve last year, went thru Calais about 7.30am 2 days ago, did not see any problems, signs above the motorway saying look out for objects and people in the road.

Calais and eurotunnel are well secured, plus the police won't let them make camps. Probably trying the7r luck at Caen now as its less fortified.
Wish they would go elsewhere!

Travelled back from Caen 3 times from December - April and travelling back again Monday night.
Seemed to be fewer in April than December and appears they are purely targeting lorries - although it does feel a little uncomfortable parking up anywhere in Ouisterham except within the queue for the ferry - we now aim to arrive in the last half hour of check in.
A tip - on arriving in Ouistreham there is a roundabout and the ferry can be reached either by turning right and going by the side of the canal - or going straight on through town. Lorries aren't allowed to go turn right (nor caravans in theory)- so best to go right. Some speed bumps but noticeable abscence of migrants.

We stayed at Riva Bella last year for the 08.30 ferry. Police chasing illegals all around outside the site. Never saw any inside. Full search of car, caravan and roof box in line to board ferry. This year we are staying further away at Camping des Capucines. Found Riva Bella a bit noisy and overcrowded, especially where the overnighters tend to park and stay hitched up.

Ouistreham does not have the number of ferries that Calais does so it should be easier to police. Hope it does'nt go the way of Calais.
We used to always use that route but it became too expensive.
Now retired we stop off overnight at Folkestone before going over, saving a fair bit on ferries.

We always used to go and return to Dover, but the M25 car park became too much of a hassle. Took us 10 hours to get home to Cardiff 2 years ago. We now bite the bullet and use Portsmouth.

Caen last Sept our trailer suffered an failed attempt to open it, we have a hard top which we secure with 2 extra cycle locks. They tried to cut the cable to open the top and also had tried to pull the back panel out from the bottom. Thankfully no damage was done and no 'extras' were added. The police, customs and port security took it very seriously and moved us into the freight lanes where there seemed to be extra security. We watched security catch 2 youths attempting to get straight into the ferry!
We travelled back via Calais ferry to Dover on saturday and saw several groups hanging around before the terminal plus the overhead warning signs of objects and people in the road. It was the first time we've done that route and I found it quite unnerving and sad tbh.
Never seen anything like it at the eurotunnel (our normal crossing) and didn't see anything at Caen but that was a couple of years ago.
We stopped at Bella Riva on Friday 28th. We filled up at the garage near Carrefore £1.28 per litre, there were armed Gendarmerie on the roundabout. We saw about 6 immigrants on the opposite side of the road, there were about 20 on the actual approach road to the site. None of them even looked at us. We pitched on the usual pitches at the back of the site to stay coupled up. At about 6.30 outside near the canal 3 cars stopped and it looked like they were giving food and drinks to the immigrants. I was told that at about 9pm the Gendarmerie clear them all out of the town. In the morning on the way to the ferry was saw about 6 more, who didn't seems interested in us. Between booking in and getting on the Ferry the Caravan was searched 3 times.
I will continue using that way when returning home with no worries at all.

Travelled back thru Ouisterham on June 20. Noticed migrants in the town and couldn’t believe how well dressed they were! Extra security fencing was being installed and more security was evident while you waited in your lane eg you needed your boarding pass to get into the port cafe!
The staff told us the migrants were no problem but we got the feeling that this was a company ‘keep em in the dark’ statement.
We find it better to stay at the muni in Falaise and take the only afternoon ferry on a Wednesday.
Having said all this, we did not experience any problems so don’t be put off taking the Caen ferry crossing
