Brexit is usually blamed for price hikes.....cost of fuel, labour, materials and the fall in the value of the pound.

2 years ago I paid just over £500 for 4 of us and the car and caravan, this year it's just under £1000. It's ridiculous, I live 3 miles from the ferry terminal but can't justify paying that.
I can fly the 4 of us to Alicante and have a 10 days in Spain for £1000.

Add the cost of sites with pools, entertainment etc, and package holidays start to look quite reasonable.

Not saying it can't be done cheaply, but can become quite expensive.

It's either that particular route, or you're wanting to go at the very height of the high season. I had a look at the Hull - Rotterdam crossing in September and it's more or less the same as last year at around £450 for my van, 2 adults and a 'good' cabin.

However I agree that the cost is still silly compared with flying and staying in a decent hotel.

Two drifters off to see the world.

I'm tired of reality, so I'm off to look for a good fantasy.

I live 4 miles away, and drive past the dock entrance to go to Dover.

We live 15 min drive away from the port and booked Hull to Rotterdam in the summer holidays this year and it came to £540.00, its a big chunk of the holiday budget before booking a site. I would love to use the port again for camping trips to Europe but its pretty hard to justify when you can get flights at half the price.

Wow, and I thought I was paying over the odds at £148.50 for our Dover - Calais return crossing later this month for car+trailer at sensible crossing time's with P&O, checked with DFDS and they were asking £198 for Dover-Dunkerque.

Only 750 miles to the campsite once we get into France, so not to bad really!
