I have heard that canvas holidays have sold out to the French company Tohapi has anyone else heard this

Yes, and Vacalians/Tohapi/large investment company now also run Camping Cheques. It will be interesting to see how it all pans out because Camping Cheques appear to be running completely out of steam.

Quite sad really
We also used to book via holiday cheque until that changed to travel club. At the moment we are on a Tohapi campsite in the Loire. We are Hapi nice new mobile home in good location and lovely swimming pool complex few things gs not up to expectations but not major problem

Yes Tohapi has also bought out the CHM naturist site at Montalivet so more mobil homes & rentatents no doubt.

Our first ever experience of camping in France was with Canvas Holidays in the early 80's. One of our children was just three and still in nappies at night - terry nappies in those days! Washing them by hand was a chore - we were in a fairly small site with no washing machine.

Does anyone remember "Ball trap on the Cote Sauvage", on TV in 1989, with Jack Shephard, Zoe Wanamaker and Miranda Richardson? It was brilliant and summed up the joys (and otherwise) of Canvas Holidays!

Our first holiday was with Eurocamp in 1981 when my son was just a six month old baby. We stayed at Le Paradis in the Dordogne and had such a wonderful time that we've been back to France every year since!

I thought Caravan Club bought it not that long ago?

"Ball trap" was a great favourite of ours, often quoted on camping trips even now. Often wondered where Camping l'Horizon actually was filmed. Andrew Davies' writing was superb, and great acting from a fabulous cast.

The Caravan Club (as was) bought the Alan Rogers Organisation - and Alan Rogers were the franchise holders for Camping Cheques in this country - but not the organisation itself. That used to be French campsite owners, then a small business, then a large business, then an international corporation (Kawan), and then ......................!

Val A - the site we stayed on all those years ago was also in the Dordogne, Le Moulin du Roch, which has now grown beyond recognition! We had terrible weather, and in a tent that's not so good. However it didn't quite put us off - we subsequently used Canvas Holidays with the kids in the Jura, Alsace, and Burgundy. But it wasn't until we got our caravan 10 years ago that we really began to enjoy camping!

The C (&MH)C are hopeless. (In my opinion)
I’m not surprised. They are supposed to operate for benefit of members and non-profit making. Why are sites so dear then? And wifi is crazy. It should be free. They are a huge management heavy organisation which could run very well with half the staff.
