Le Po Dore in Allonnes, near Saumur (which has an amazing pool/beach area even though a small site) or the site at Montjean sur Loire, between Angers and Nantes.
Hi Bofs. Yes to Allonnes. We found it by pure chance two weeks ago -in pouring rain so we only stayed one night , but as well as being a good little site Sabine the owner is lovely and helpful.
I agree about Sabine - worth going just to meet her!
Le Sabot at Azay le Rideau - easy access to most of the main chateaux in the region, walking distance to town, 5 minutes drive to the supermarket - no need to book.
You could try La Mignardiere on the outskirts of Tours. It's quiet at night, close to supermarkets, and fairly easy drive to most of the Loire. As you enter the site the pitches to the right (with the pool behind you) are the hedged ones, and this area was the quietest.
we are in the camping municipale in Muides (half way between Blois and Orleans). 14 euro per night, cycle paths everywhere, boulangerie two minutes cycle ride, a great cycle ride (or car drive) to the chateaux of Chambord and Cheverny. This is a good place and well recommended if you are happy with basic facilities (no pool, no restaurant, no bar, no games, no childrens play area).
Camping de la Touche - 15km from Loches. €8 per person per night. No pitch restrictions, beautiful refurbished toilet block, lovely atmosphere, swimming pool, peace/quiet. www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/details.asp?revid=5166
Hi,
Many thanks for so many ideas for a campsite to suit us in the Loire.
We had slightly limited internet but I had a brief look at all your suggestions and we paid a quick visit to a few (those close together);
Finally settling on Camping Couleurs Du Monde in Faverolles Sur Cher. The loos etc. were brilliant and some of the nice grassy pitches were huge; which suited us fine for getting together with our friends.
Thank you.
Don't forget to leave a review of the French and other European campsites you have visited!
