Can somebody please help me - we are going to the Basque area in Spain in September and have booked the first few nights on a site. If we get the ACSI can we present it at other sites if we book ahead - or do we just have to turn up and take pot luck on avaialability. Is it really as good as it sounds or appears to be on websites?
Any infor would be helpful
Thanks

ACSI is extremely useful...you would be daft not to get it

In September you don't need to book anywhere. Turn up, flash the old ACSI card and Bob's your uncle.
We have toured four months of the year on the continent for the last 15 years, and have never, ever booked in advance.
You'll love the Basque country Lizzy1956. The scenery is amazing and the food is great. Don't miss out on San Sebastian (best tapas bars or pintxos as they say in the Basque country) and Hondarrabia on the border with France.
As with Stuart above, we have never ever booked a site in advance. Just turn up, show your ACSI card and Bob's your uncle. To my mind the huge advantage of continental sites is that you pay when you leave which means if the weather turns or you don't like the area you can just leave.
As an indication of just how valuable the ACSI card is, some camp sites will keep it at reception to make sure you do pay when leaving.

No need to book but you need to do the maths. You need to recoup the cost of the card & more to make it worthwhile so do some research & see what sites you want to stay at & whether the savings are worth it or are there cheap non ACSI sites in the area.
For me the card works because I have specific sites I want to stop at & at the times I stop there I probably save over 200€ total but using the card randomly with no plan may yield little or no savings.

Wouldnt hesitate to purchase one - regardless.
A really great source for information and often used like a passport at sites abroad.
Saved a lot of euros on every trip.
Very little need to ever ever book ahead - maybe ring a site at 11am to check up for a 4 pm arrival - follow the weather & mood is our view.
I just happened to check my Motorhome insurance: they have craftily put a clause in so that if you don't have a pitch pre-booked, they will not pay for an alternative motorhome if disaster struck, just a car! I have some sites booked, some "pencilled in" for my next jaunt.
I will definitely book my last night site too, just in case
Grrrr.

It is so different from the UK
I had no idea Bob61 had so many nieces and nephews!!
I use them all the time, sometimes book, other times just turn up. Avoid Calpe Mar, they add on costs as they see fit. Currently on El Naranjal and have pre booked for next year as it gets busy and I've bagged a bigger pitch! Can't fault the place (will review after a while here)

As we have a twin axle and three small dogs we always book ahead with a small deposit. Sometimes we can specify a pitch that we want due ot its size or location. We then pay the balance on arrival using the ACSI discount.
