We are booked to go to Portugal on the 7th Feb 2019 I know that many sites will b e closed, looking in the Acsi book some are open also looking at cccc web site gives overnight stops do I need to book in advance as sometimes we stay more than one night but don't make our minds up till we get there.

Am I right in thinking that I will need to book all of our stay in Portugal or as the year moves on we can just turn p at a site. We have also looked at ccc's rallies but I hate been tried down. We will be away till end of March. I am afaired of getting on site and not liking the area, I didn't like Perpignan area.

At moment we are in France and are just drifting along in the het.

If the ACSI book says the site is open, the chances are it will be, and I certainly wouldn't bother booking. Don't know anything about Portugal though.

We’ve done the CCC rallies in Spain and Portugal for the last couple of years and love them. We use the ACSI book for the journey down and back and haven’t booked anywhere, although my husband sometimes phones the previous day to check there are pitches available. There generally will be at that time of year though.

Hi,
Wouldn't be worried about booking sites in advance.
Follow the weather, your mood and your enthusiasm to stay put or to just move on.
Normal on ACSI price sites to arrive and just pay up on departure.
Do a bit of basic pre-planning and lists ahead of UK departure of suitable sites.
We chose to phone ahead late morning, say 2 hours prior, to our preferred night stop.
We did find one site in France due to open early March on their website as well as acsi that had postponed the date by a few days so still shut but we already had a few alternatives to choose from so no issue.
Researching bottled Gas options in advance will save time & trouble.
Enjoy !

Thanks for your replys we will phone warhead and see what happens.

Are the rallies like here with things on or are they just a group of vans getting a discount.

We have been in France for 5 weeks now and have not used gas in that time, I dont think that will be a problem.

We love the rallies. There’s usually a lot going on, barbecues, walks, craft sessions, day trips etc plus rally meals, quiz nights, Chinese auctions, beetle drives, whist drives, boules matches. You can join in or not as you wish. You also have the local knowledge and experience of the stewards and others on the rallies if you want to get out and about on your own.

We went to three last year and five this year, one for 7 weeks and a couple for just a couple of weeks to see the area. Just waiting for the brochure to arrive so we can book for next winter. There are rallies during the summer too.

The winter ones are, obviously, attended by mostly retired people but they are definitely not old people!
