Been to the Alps twice (summer)like it a lot. Very pretty, dramatic in parts, do like to go full on tourist mode sometimes and must admit the Alps lives up to expectations.
Been to the Pyrenees several times, passed thru and stopped there and it just does not seem to cut it like the Alps.It just does not have the same appeal, it seems like a watered down version of the Alps.
Obviously we have not been everywhere in both these areas, is there anywhere in the Pyrenees where you go wow!!!

Andorra is always worth a visit for the tax free shopping. We usually do Pas de la Casa from the French side or St Julia de Loria from the Spanish side.

The Pyrenees are definitely less touristy than the Alps but there are plenty of wow places to visit. As a campsite I can definitely recommend Pyrenees Natura which is above Argeles Gazost and only 6 km from Lac d’ Estaing and definitely has wow factors as per the attached photos. These were taken in June 2013 and we were so lucky to have caught them with snow still on them. Quite a number of the passes over to Spain were still closed.
You could also try the cable car to the Pic du midi di Bigorre which is the highest point of the Haute Pyrenees as long as you can stand heights and take a coat even in mid summer as it’s at about 9000 ft.
As someone else said visit Lourdes. Ignore the tat shops selling religious memorabilia but it’s very moving to see people who are visiting the grotto in the hope of a miracle cure.
I’m sure you will enjoy if you visit the Pyrenees.

The above might be an attempt at humour, dunno, perhaps it is wishful thinking or just not thinking.
But thanks for the other replies, been to Andorra once years ago, awful traffic, perhaps we went on the wrong day.
Like Pyrenees Natura, looks great and at the moment is the favourite.
Spent a week in the Pyrenees on the motorbike. The cols are superb, as is the cable car to the Pic du Midi. Getting "buzzed" by vultures on the way up to the Col du Tourmalet was pretty memorable. And so was avoiding the free-range horses and cattle that wander freely over the roads.
I thought the Pyrenees were much more accessible and less glammed up than the Alps. Its an area for pottering about the small towns and villages too. They have far fewer apartment blocks than the Alps, where the ski towns can look like clones of each other.
Lourdes is an aquired taste - i'm a Catholic but hated it.

I've been to some of the Cathar/Templar/Holy Grail legend places like Rennes Le Chateau and Montsegur. If you don't mind an uphill walk, Montsegur is wonderful. Rennes Le Chateau is worth a visit if you have a fascination with the legend that surrounds it.

Well it made me laugh!
I apologise for any offence caused.
If you suffer from either of those things you have my sincere condolences.
I found Lourdes to be awful ... the commercialisation is appalling. If the historical JC were to arrive there to-day, he'd have the whip out immediately.
However ... 'the faithful' may well have a very different viewpoint.
Love the Pyrenees, which changes character from east to west ... some of the national parks (on the spanish side) are fabulous ... towns like Pau and Navarenx on the West end are interesting ... the little trains (east and west) provide spectacular trips ... different from the Alps, but, as Alan says, much less glammed up, and raw natural beauty in abundance ...

As you are interested in Pyrenees Natura here’s a bit more info. My daughter and partner have just had 4 nights there in their campavan and loved it. Only booked 2 nights but liked it so much they stayed 4 even though they had thunderstorms on 2 nights as can happen in the Pyrenees.
Although we were in a chalet when we were there I did check out the shower blocks and they were extremely good.
Although there is no “restaurant” as per normal sites, Madame makes one different meal each day which included a beef bourgignon, a coq au vin and a lamb shank (on different days of course) which were all superb and at an extremely reasonable price. You pay the same whether you take it back to your pitch or eat in the small dining area or on the terrace at reception. Also while we were there they charged the same for the wine in the dining area as you paid in the small shop. We found a very nice red for just over €4 a bottle which was all they charged when we ate on the terrace.
Included a photo taken in Argeles Gazost which is the nearest small town to site. If you go I am sure you will love it.
