We always use red pennant for both health and mechanical insurance, to say that we are creeking gates is probably an understatement lol.Red pennant is expensive, but you get what you pay for, on the occasion we had to use it the service was second to none, and we will never venture abroad without using red pennant, hoping this helps Arthur
WE have always used Red Pennant simply because it is a joined up policy. For those of us with medical conditions they tend to treat us better by not loading policies. If you are young an fit you will no doubt find cheaper but when I last checked I couldn't find any policy that was meaningfully lower than Red Pennant.

Can't answer your first part but as to whether or not you need it a big yes. Over the years we have helped several people here France using the French health system. Medically in our opinion it is second to none, on the administration side coupled with language issues if can be frustrating and worrying. Those who had proper cover have always done well, more often than not the insurance taking over from the UK. Without adequate cover it can expensive and time consuming at a time when there is enough to cope with when someone is ill in a foreign country.

The Nationwide offer health insurance for free on one of their accounts. For longer stays you just pay a premium.
Indeed it does, but premium for more than 31 days, and a premium for over 75's and folk with pre-existing medical conditions.

Indeed they do, but so do most if not all insuarnace companies.
We have cover through our Flex Plus account and the time extension cost is very little. We both have long standing health conditions, mine quite serious, which we declare and we do pay a supplement which I at first thought was high until I compared it it’s stand alone policies and found we were still better off with the Nationwide for year round cover, though for a short one off trip this might not be the case.
The cost is £13 a month but that includes breakdown and recovery insurance in both the UK and Europe, mobile phone insurance and various other benefits which more than cover the cost of the fee.
I don’t work for Nationwide but do recommend them as they came and opened a branch in the town that we live in when the 3 existing banks closed, so I feel they deserve support :-)
Definitely required. On holidays in Europe in recent years I have witnessed fellow campers suffer acute onset conditions, exacerbation of chronic illness and accidents such as exploding gas BBQs. Latter resulting in hospitalisation for male camper and repatriation of his partner and car/caravan unit. ( the partner couldn't drive!)

Just purchased ours, 3 out 4 of us have pre existing conditions. 15 days cover for 2A, 2C with medical cover, cancellation cover and other cover we probably don't need was just over £20. Why wouldn't you at that price.
We use CAMC Red Pennant too. They don’t load it for medical conditions, just ask if your meds have changed in the last two weeks. CC. wanted an extra £280 because I have asthma.
