Hi we have decided to go camping this weekend and thought we would follow the weather a bit and aim for France. Do you need to book in advance to France for a tent with hook up or can you just try and turn up? Do you have any sort of idea on a starting
Price per night we just want yo hook and flat grass. Will we need a connector for our hook
Up. I have read we will need a travel pack for the car and as we have left it too late for a car sticker as void the towns that need one. For got to ask is there a cheaper ferry crossing port to aim for we are willing
To travel at whatever time of day, thanks

Dover to Calais or Dunkerque will be the cheapest crossing but it makes sense to book on line before setting off - P&O or DFDS.
If you choose smaller inland sites you should just be able to turn up. If you choose beachside and larger sites then you will be lucky to find a pitch. On some sites with older 'bollards' you may need a two pin to blue connector
Price per night might be anywhere from eight euros to 80 euros depending on the site. See a fairly recent thtead about cheap campsites
If you are happy to maybe trya few places, then you'll should certainly find somewhere on spec. of course avoid the busier places maybe.
Shop around for fares, ferries are genrally cheapest, though tunnel is quick - (crossing time 35min) (and normally quite smooth even when busy, yes, yes, I know about the recent long quesues - which we managed to avoid on our recent trip)
You aren't likely to be goign near anywhere that will require a Crit'air sticker.
Check the AA site for info a driving specifics, but moslty it's a triangle and high viz. You cna pick up at the terminal or halfords etc.
Val! You must be looking here all the hours God sends! I’m just about to give my limited advice when there you are before me he he. I must admit tho, you do give some really good advice so listen up people! This kid knows it!,

Take a decent satnav or make sure you have data roaming on your phone.
Cross channel.
Virtually every French town has a camping site, they are far more accepting of walk-in customers.
Plan you first stop then just move on to where you fancy.
Just got back from France, we booked 4 nights at http://www.loire-gites.com before leaving and then used pitch-up.com to find availability for the next stop.
Tunnel is very expensive at the moment, we did Portsmouth-Caen on the way out and came back by Calais yesterday.
Very easy to find 2 weeks of accommodation whilst out there.
The campsite search facility on here has a French section, with really useful reviews. A good place to start. Municipal campsites are usually cheapest.
