Wow!
Great schedule, Amanda ... General Moltke would have signed you up!
Lol! It absolutely wasn’t planned, but the weather was cooling down, we were so ahead of schedule (and no speeding, there was just no traffic! - the other way was hideous on the Autoroute de Soleil tho7h) that we dithered for about 100 Miles about what to do, and in the end put it to a family vote. We paid £70 to change the tunnel to the Saturday booking, but managed to cancel our overnight hotel which would have been £120, so weren’t out of pocket. Means a full day at home before back to work on Monday!
To add: wed absolutely NOT ever plan to do Provence to Lincs in a day, as 99% of the time the traffic would completely scupper your plans.
Brilliant!
Obviously, not wise to plan such a trip, but it's great when it goes well, and all are home safe.
We did similar-but-different about 3 years ago...
It would have been late morning when we left our Vendee site (after loading up the tent), and we actually arrived and attempted to settle in at our overnight hotel, but it was so bad (so many reasons!) that after a couple of hours, we decided to do what we now call a "French Runner"... Pay on arrival, but then sneak off without telling anyone! Ha, Ha!
We arrived at the tunnel around 10:30pm, approx. 15 hours early for our next day lunchtime booking, and were advised that the next few trains would cost us over £100 surcharge, but waiting until after midnight would result in no charge. With the added complication of being a "high vehicle", we had to miss the first couple of trains after midnight, but got away certainly before 1 am, and with the 1 hour rebate, we arrived home in Derby just before dawn, approx 18/19 hours or so after we set off, but with a couple of hours "so-called rest!" at the hotel (and other stops en-route, of course).
Only the one driver, which I know isn't sensible, but it wasn't as bad as it could have been. Muckerette kept herself awake to keep me awake, and as with your adventure, all ended well.
Still naughty, though!
