Hi. This is my first post as a new user. Not sure this is the right forum to be on and iam happy to remove if not allowed.

I am looking for lots of help in finding suitable static caravan sites in France, in particular the west coast, Vendee, or Loire. We have a static sited in UK but aren’t happy with park and want to relocate.

Help from anyone who has experience of owning in France, rules, sites that allow being ons, costs and all the stuff We don’t know about and have to think about

I look forward to receiving your replies and much conversation.

Had a look at the above and did debate about buying there, but for the moment we will carry on touring. But it is still on the list when we stop touring and get really lazy.

Be very careful about siting a static in France, particularly if they are owned by Brits.

I bought a new static and had it in the Lot. Site fees kept going up and other means of extracting money were found. You were not allowed to sell the caravan on site but had to remove it, otherwise the site owner sold it. I paid £41,000 for my caravan in 2005, this included decking etc. I sold it in 2010 and she only paid me £10,000.
The latest scam was not allowing you to install a satellite dish, you had to pay the site owner to install it. Many owners were very dissatisfied and there was a huge turnover. She now relies on second=hand sales and has not sold a new caravan since about 2012.

I bet that's the same site our friends were interested in!
Did you meet the owners at the Caravan Show?

There are some good sites, though, with decent and responsible owners and decent terms and conditions, and we've looked into it before, but I don't know the areas the OP is interested in.

Susan,if you want a mobil home in France, buy French. It will meet all the rules and fegs with regards to gas installation etc.Another consideration is plumbing, push fit fittings are hard to get in France. The biggest reason is you will be able to sell it,if you don’t like the site for what ever reason.

Fees will go up as campsites cost alot to run and tbh locateurs frequently take the p..s. and will not pay given half the chance.
If you do buy French;
Mobil homes have a fantastic mark up. In 2010 I bought 3 Irm 2 bed mobil homes, cost 36000€ HT.
I sold them for 22000€ TTC each, installation fee of 1500€ each, ground rent was about 100€ a month and electricity was metered.

I looked into the various options of buying a static in France and decided that it would be more sensible to put my money into Bongo Bongo Investments of Nigeria.

Joanna, if it helps -

we've done it twice now on the same site in France on the Vendee - shipped a UK van to the site - last one cost us 16k to buy and ship ( 3 bed, central heating pitched roof etc less than 2 years old) 1500 euros for the site to install it and 2300 euros per year fees, fees rise around 30 euros per year,

it cost us 12.5k to get our first van over. kept it there for 8 or 9 nine years then sold it on site for 18.5k - we spent around 8k on it, decking, shed, improvements etc so got back nearly as much as it had cost us (other then site fees of course)- try getting that in the UK

our new van is worth around 24k going off recent sold prices on site.

if you already own your own van then you could ship it for around 3k - pay site fees of around 2500 euros and it would be worth at least 10k on the site we are on.

as others have pointed out though, you NEED to check the site first, spend some time there and chat to others on site. there are around 8 british families and 2 irish on our site of around 150 mobile homes, other sites have different proportions. check re restrictions on age of vans (there aren't any on our site) and if you have to sell through the site, in our case you don't have to do anything other than tell the site owner, not even a fee for transferring title !!

to give you an idea of other costs - insurance was around 170 euros, electric came to around 50 euros (no mark up allowed for the site) and gas use was about 80 euros - we used the van for about 4 months in total

unfortunately its too far to use just for a weekend !
