We're thinking of taking advantage of the new Brittany Ferries Cork / Santander route next year (fingers crossed it stays on) and heading to Asturias with the caravan for a month or so. This will be the first time we've been to mainland Spain.

My current thinking is to split equally between 2 sites (both ACSI) :
La Viorna in the mountains for Potes, Picos and Llanes
Cudillero on the coast for Aviles, Oviedo, Luarca
and maybe stop for a few nights on the way back to Santander at Ribadesella (also ACSI) for Lastres.

I'm assuming I don't need to book at all for June / early July ?
Also are there any must-sees I've missed ? (We tend to mostly like moderate walking (ie max 6km and flat-ish), gardens, history, villages, as little driving as possible & peace and quiet.

Any other suggestions / comments welcome thanks.

can't help with the others sites you mentioned but Ribadesella is a cracking site and the town and surrounding area has a lot to offer

Hi,
We've stayed a number of times at Camping La Viorna, just outside Potes.
This is our all time favourite site ANYWHERE.
Nice town as well.
Spanish sun during the day and because of the height, cool enough to sleep at night.
Enjoy.

The site at Lanes is amazing for a night or two. Caravans are towed up by a 4 x 4 as its rather steep.

One of our favourite areas ... will be returning next summer.

You will have seen my reviews of both La Viorna and Cudillero ...

If you look at a couple of others: Cabuerniga

and

La Isla Picos de Europa

You'll see quite a range of suggested things/places to visit/do in the area, all relevant to the sites you have earmarked, too.

Try to fit in El Capricho de Gaudi at Comillas ... a marvellous example of Gaudi's work, and well worth a visit.

I know you say that 6km is your preferred walking limit ... but, the Cares Gorge is so fantastic, you might consider it ... it's double your distance, but plenty of picnic/stopping points, and it is unique ... if you don't plan to do it all ... do drive to the starting point at Cain de Valdeon, and walk the first couple of miles and then return ... it'll give you a good flavour of the magnificence of the route.
