Hello,

We’ve camped twice now at Pomport Beach, near Bergerac, and have had great times there but we are now wondering if it’s time for a change? We loved being able to camp next to the lake and waking up with a view over the water. The kids enjoyed both the beach at the lake and the pools with the slides.

So I’m looking for any recommendations for top French campsites that have good facilities and ideally have great views from the pitch. We probably don’t want to head too much further south than Bergerac due to the driving time although the weather does get more reliable down south. The Atlantic coast might also be a bit rough for our young kids. So a site with a great pool and slides, possibly next to a lake would be ideal. Especially if there’s some fishing to be done from outside of the tent!!

We have only ever been to the French Med and Southern Ardeche, been going there since 1962!when I was two.

OK it is further to drive than you would wish, but I still find the drive as enjoyable now as I did back in 1978 which was the year after I got my driving license.

The journey South, becomes part of the holiday and adds to the whole holiday experience.

For the last last few years, we have returned to Frejus, which makes for a great base, in fact there is a fishing pond across the road from the campsite that we were at.

Yelloh St Emilion, just along from Bergerac towards Bordeaux. Fits your brief, new pool complex, lake with fishing. We were there in late August, grandkids thoroughly enjoyed themselves, spent so much time in the pools they were more wrinkled than me.

Couple of suggestions not too far from Bergerac.

Yelloh village Chateau de Fonrives - has pool complex, slides, lake fishing - about half an hour south of Bergerac near Villereal.

Moulin de Paulhiac near Daglan in the Dordogne - just under an hour east of Bergerac. Very child friendly, pool complex with slides, no lake but kiddy safe swimming / paddling in the river Ceou at the bottom of the site. I think you can also fish in the river - if not there's plenty in the area - the Dordogne river is only 10 minutes drive away.

You'll find St Emilion falt compared to the Ardeche.

Consider Provence, Dordogne...a hike to get there but so worth it.
