Not on the Med, but my pre-teens absolutely loved L'Ardechois at Vallon Pont d'Arc. It organises a lot of activities for pre-teens and teenagers - my son was very impressed by the sleepover in the woods, with music and a campfire! It's years ago now and we were on our way to Spain, and decided to stay there overnight - and ended up staying a fortnight! They had crazy bicycles, (pedals go round the wrong way, handlebars turn in the wrong direction, etc), organised water polo in the pool, walks from the site for pre-teens, horse-riding............... According to friends who still go there nothing much has changed.
There is access to a river with rapids and rope swings, and a whole lot more. It's a very scenic area with plenty of opportunities for off-site visits.
I'm sure there are similar sites on the Med, but my sons were never beach lovers so we tended to stay inland, with just the occasional visit to the beach.

Just a thought! Sandaya Les Tamaris near Sete SOF. Right on the beach, shop and restaurant on site, great pool, organised activities and ‘large’ pitches for the SOF. Well worth a look

It has just as many campsites, and some lovely beaches, but in school holidays traffic can be a nightmare. There are loads of sites, though, so if you're really interested in that side of the Med then I'm sure some people will come up with something interesting.
We used to like Cavalaire and La Croix Valmer, and have friends who still live there. We used to stay at Camping de la Baie in Cavalaire, or Selection Camping at La Croix Valmer. Both are near to (but not on) the beach, both within walking distance of 'bustle' but I'm talking about a long time ago and those sites might have changed in the meantime.
Perhaps those with more recent experience of child-friendly sites on the Western Med might be able to help.
