Can anyone recommend a site within walking distance of a town in Loire region. About 5-6 hours drive from Calais ideally. thanks

Last year. Nice small site with a covered swimming pool. Very good English spoken at reception. It is a 10 minute walk int Heric which has a few shops but also a very good supermarket, intermarche if I remember. It is a 30-40 minute drive into Nantes and there is the Ile de Machines

Well worth a visit, but book your tickets for the elephant ride over the internet to avoid the redicilously long queues.

Camping l’Île d’Auger - stayed here a couple of years ago. (Sorry, forget to review) No pool, but the local wine is gorgeous.

Take a look at Les Saules in Cheverny. Great campsite, heated pool covered, if inclement weather, open for the sun, great safe cycling, can walk into Cheverny (20 mins) close to Blois - great town - plenty to see and do and close to great amenities including supermarkets. Highly recommend. Will be there again in 2019

Another thumbs up for Camping De L'Ile Auger at Chinon.
We stayed there last summer and thought it one of the best we have stayed on in France. Loads to do in and around the town.

Another site we liked was Le Sabot in Azay-le-Rideau.

I think both are/were municipals so nothing fancy but suited us oldies very well. Municipals are usually in or just a short walk into a town. They have served us well but some are much better than others so a bit of homework is strongly advised. Try the French website http://www.camping-municipal.org/. There is an English option if you need it.

The municipal at Gennes (Au Bord De Loire) is nice and right in the town, beside a good municipal pool, midway between Angers and Saumur.

Been a while since we were there so check the latest reviews for the site itself at La Citadelle at Loches to see what’s new and what people think of it now. Here are some photos we took whilst there which will give a good indication of where the site is in relation to the town. First from the site itself and next on the walk into Loches from the site and one of the market in Loches. Loches is very nice and just south of the Loire but well placed to visit the Loire region.

Ile d'Offard Saumur is good or Les Nobis at Montreuil Bellay not far from Saumurin medieval town.
Chinon is good too.

Can highly reckoned the municiple at La Fleche.
On the banks of the Loire and walking distance to small town.
There is also a swimming lake with a beach about a mile away. There is ladies s large LeClerc supermarket.

That was always our favourite for an overnight or a short stay between the tunnel and the Dordogne.

AFAIK the running of the site has been taken on by a private firm although still gets vg reviews on tripadvisor in France.
