Travelling home (Calais ferry) from Annecy in the Summer - storing the caravan somewhere and flying from Geneva to Croatia for a family holiday. Does anyone know the best touring route from the aiport North (ie in the direction of Dijon); roads that aren't precarious I mean? Viamichelin route planner with 'caravan' ticked takes us up a very zig-zag road from Nyon which I do not trust !!

No need to go to Nyon.

The direct road goes up and over the Juras from Geneva via Gex. It's the N5, the historic road from Geneva to Paris. Yes it's twisty up to the Col de la Faucille, but not alarming. It's scenic, pituresque and toll free.

The alternative is by motorway, which is further, dearer, less attractive and a bit quicker.

personally i'd head south to the a40 from Geneva and turn west on the a40, past bourg en bresse and then up the a39

Atually i wouldnt, If yo're in Geneva, you already have the vignette, so I'd get my moneys worth and head north through switzerland heading for mulhouse and then verdun where i'd stop for the night at Camping des Breuils then drive to calais the next day...but I'm terrified of heights and the route between annecy and bourg en bresse terrifies me

Doing whatever the rice krispies tell me to.
