Please help! We've narrowed the area we want to stay down to the South of France, within driving distance of Nice, Marseille and maybe Montpellier. I know that is a wide area, but we are happy to have a few long days out to travel to these places, we're also willing to not visit one of those places if the right site was found but distance prohibited us!!!

We're a family of 6, 4 children from the ages of 12-21, so the campsite needs to have an aquatic area, preferably with slides!!

Does anyone have any suggestions, I've googled many sites, but am hesitant to book without recommendation.

Sites we've looked at include Avignon Parc and Le Castel Rose - both of which are Yelloh! campsites which I can't decide is a negative or positive.

Does anyone know of any gems that would suit us!

Castel Rose (Anduze) is too far from Nice to make 'even a long day out' a sensible possibility. Traffic on that coast can be very very busy in July and August, and you can spend hours in queues. Don't forget that travelling any distance at that time of year can be very hot, even with air conditioning on in the car.

Where have you been looking for sites? Have a look on the Eurocampings website (not Eurocamp) and use the advanced search facility to search for sites with 'Tropical Swimming Paradise'.   I like Anduze personally - because it was one of the first places I stayed at with my partner and children thirty years ago after we met at French classes. However, it is in hilly country on narrow roads and if you're planning on a lot of travelling it may make sense to choose somewhere a bit less off the beaten track.

Sorry not to come up with 'the perfect site' but your post doesn't really say what it is you're hoping to get from your holiday. It's quite unusual for someone to want to visit cities rather than beaches and other attractions. If those cities are definitely to be visited then I would try to find somewhere nearer where it's more practical to drive in and for you all to have long enough during that visit to see what you want to see.

Last September we stayed at La Vielle femme between Nice and Antibes. The site had decent big pitches and a swimming pool but no big slides. It was close to the beach (stones) and bus and trains but the journey to Nice, Monaco, Cannes etc was painfully slow and that’s in September.
It’s an area I have no wish to revisit. The med further along in the Languadoc is so much nicer.

Perhaps one of the sites with a water park in or around Frejus - which is midway between Marseille and Nice if you really want to visit them - road traffic will be busy but you can get to each of those cities by train - taking about an hour and a half each way. But Montpellier is somewhere else altogether.

Not wishing to be the voice of doom, but depending on time of year, travelling in the south of france is not fun. Traffic is a nightmare, especially around the coast. So factor that in to your days out.

Thanks for your replies, you've definitely given me something to think about, as I hadn't factored in the traffic at all!!

I guess I'm going to have to narrow things down instead of wanting to do it all in one holiday!

We like to visit a city as well as more local places. Year before last, we stayed near Dune du Pyla, but ventured to San Sebastien and to Bordeaux - we all fell in love with Bordeaux!!

So, to revise my question, do you have an suggestions for campsites in the South of France, that have swimming pools and slides!

Thanks :) xx

I've enjoyed several holidays in this area - yes it's touristy but hey that can be enjoyable too, especially with a range of ages to cater for.
We like the area around cavalaire sur mer, it has a nice feel but also well located for day trips along the coast and inland too. Lots of lovely beaches/coves within easy driving distance. Check out campsite cros de mouton as a possibility ( think I spelt that right?).

Les Tournels, at Ramatuelle, near St Tropez, but a short drive to quieter beaches (Plage de l'Escalet and Le Bonne Terrasse), and over the headland on the D93 to Cavalaire mentioned above. My son learned to swim in the pool there a long time ago and the pools have been extended since then. Probably about half way between Nice and Marseille if you still want to visit, but near to St Tropez for some shopping, celebrity watching and the Marche des Puces where you may bump into the stars buying 'Nick Nacks' for their houses in the hills!

It's another Yelloh Village so have a look and see what you think.

We find Frejus or to be more precise Roqubrune Sur Argens, to be an ideal base for visiting places like St Tropez along to Monaco, with Cannes being a particular favourite of mine, and for Mrs Francais the perfumery's at Grasse.

When our Son was young, now 34, we would go to Pins Les Parasols at Frejus, to hectic for us now that we are in our dotage, but fine for young families.

Ok, thanks for all your replies, they certainly helped us to narrow it down to an area! We've found a site we like, but now have a problem with the booking! I want to specify a pitch, at the cost of €30, but the pitches aren't numbered... am I missing something!!https://img.sandayagroupe.eu/images/_aliases/map_1754x1240/site-commercial/........

we have travelled to Frejus in very early august and not really had issues with traffic. I once went to look at the site you have chosen as it was once a Castles site. To be honest it wasn't a great site. The pitches looks small, small around the pool and also had a lot of trees. If you are wanting Frejus go to l'etoile d'argens. we always go here and is just such alovely site that offers loads.
