I have recently developed a complication from a gall bladder removal just over a year ago. We were due to sail from Portsmouth to St Malo on Sunday night. I decided I couldn't risk it in case I ended up in a French hospital, leaving my Wife, who is a non-driver, to manage on her own. I phoned Brittany Ferries to cancel my crossing, not really expecting any sort of refund due to the short notice and they allowed me to re-schedule the return crossing to September with a loss of only £25.00, which I did not really lose as the crossings I selected were cheaper and they credited me with £3.00.
I'm going into hospital tomorrow and hopefully the matter will be sorted.
A few years ago, I could not make a Ryanair flight for similar reasons and you won't need many attempts to guess what their response was.

Best wishes, hope you make a full recovery very soon..Brittany ferries are a very professional run company and their UK customer services do have a good reputation for coming up trumps in circumstances such as these.
Seriously p'd off with Brittany Ferries this year, going to France in June and they first cancelled our outward crossing and couldn't offer us a cabin for the substituted rebooked different route crossing, then a couple of weeks later they go and cancel our return crossing, again substituted/rebooked on a different route and a daytime instead of overnight crossing! Not impressed!
When Brittany took over P&O Bilbao route to Spain a few years back, they put a awful little ferry bought at short notice on the route, absolutely horrible craft but fare was considerably higher than P&O had charged for their very comfortable cruise ship/ferry!
Don't like BF, much preferred P&O, who were not only better but much cheaper, but sadly P&O abandoned the western end of channel and Spain routes and pretty much forced us onto BF!

Good for Brittany Ferries. I must admit when we've used them (two return crossings, and one single crossing) we've been impressed by the quality of the food on board, with the cleanliness of the ships we were on. and with the pet-friendly cabin we were able to reserve at short notice on the Le Havre/Portsmouth crossing. (During the strikes at Calais when we just had to be back for a hospital appointment).
We loved BF on the Plymouth to Santander route ... three times in the mid 90's ... when we did landbridge crossing from Ireland ... then the (sadly missed) Oscar Wilde service to Cherbourg, from Rosslare, offered a far cheaper route.
Now, it's fingers crossed for the new WBYeats service from Dublin to Cherbourg, which has been plagued by late delivery from the german refitters, then Dublin port problems with ferry queues and late sailings ... we're hoping that things improve by July as the timetable from landing to caravan pick up to first campsite to caravan service next day, is all pretty tight!

Thanks for the good wishes. The doctor at A & E stuck a needle in me a few times to drain some fluid out from what is supposed to be an abdominal wall abscess, prescribed some antibiotics which are causing some horrible side effects. I've got to go in in a weeks' time to have a drain fitted. In the meantime I feel like #### while this alien is growing inside me, but better to feel like that at home rather than in hospital.
