Hi all,
Our ferry leaves Caen at 8:30 in the morning - does anyone know if you can park your caravan overnight in the queue?

Because of immigrants on the loose and traffic moving around the port, most people stop overnight on one of the three nearby campsites.

It would appear you can park in lanes after the departure of the night ferry.

(See Parking under "Facilities" tab).
I think the asylum seeker situation has calmed down a lot since last summer - didn't see any when we crossed at Christmas or in March to visit family in England - and can't find anything in the press for 2019.

Having said that I'd agree the area round the port isn't the quietest place and would recommend using one of the nearby campsites - Riva Bella appears to be popular with UKCS members.

The waiting area outside ouistreham is quite small, very close to the town and road where there are bars and cafes. We boarded the ferry from there last year and there were a lot of migrants. I personally would not stay overnight but find a campsite about 30 mins from the port.

We use Riva Bella. It is a 5 minute drive from the port and they open the camp site gate at 7am so plenty of time to get to the port for the 8.30am sailing

We have used Les Capucines but prefer Riva Bella. Never had an issues with migrants and TBH it is as if they are not there.

A few years ago we stayed overnight in the ferry queue as such. We were advised to take ear plugs - which I forgot. But if definitely advise that if you go ahead, unless you can sleep through anything. They let us into the line as soon as the 2300hrs ish ferry had gone. But as we lined up so did lorries who had ? (Refrigeration?) They kept running all night. Kept me awake all night. It served a purpose for us that year but we won't be repeating the experience 😂🙈

We use either riva Bella or des capuccines. One is 5 minutes away the other 10 minutes.
