At present I use a 12v electric coolbox when camping in France. Would taking my own 'normal' table top fridge work ok on a french campsite 6 Amps or 10 Amps supply?

Should be fine and consume less than 1 amp when running, but can briefly draw higher surge current when starting up (thermostat switches motor on/off, so not just when you first plug it in!), but shouldn't trip the breaker unless you have other stuff running at same time and pushing towards max load.

Domestic fridges sometimes need a little time for the refrigerant to 'settle' after transit, so may not work straight out of the car, read the instructions (usually available online if you don't still have paper ones that came with fridge) for more info of use after transit.

Not normally stated in instructions because the expectation is domestic floors/table tops are level, but you may need to ensure it is not too far from perfectly level, camping fridges certainly have issues if not close to level.

Yep no problem, in France we use a Mobicool C40 which is just the same as a domestic table top fridge, just designed for camping use.

A normal domestic table top fridge will be a compressor type and are tilt tolerant,some Waeco camping fridges can be as much as 45 degrees out of level.
It's the absorption camping caravan fridges that are more affected but some modern ones will tolerate 6 degrees out.

Hi, we take a 240v mini fridge , think it's a 45 litre , used it on camps with 6amp hook up and had no problems

Had a table top on the continent when tent and then FC camping ... never had a problem with tilt ... never used a lev measurer ... frequently had a slight 'lean' ... never experienced any problem.

Same here.

The fridge is now in my den in our house here in the Dordogne - kept topped up with cold beers naturally.

some camp sites hire out domestic size fridges - which saves on space etc ??

Yes, check our whether your campsite does rentals. Some can be very cheap............ and in that case it's definitely worth hiring rather than taking one with you.
