I'm looking for European breakdown cover for a single trip. The C&MC are a tad expensive as my van is ancient in their eyes (almost 10 years old). Most other providers are considerably cheaper, but does anyone have a particular company that they would recommend ?
This is for vehicle only (breakdown , recovery etc..) as we have separate health cover.
I stopped insuring my camper with the C&MC as they had become expensive.

I agree about the cost, but we have twice had a major rescue through the C&MC (Red Pennant), so now we bear the cost. Suddenly, when you need it it all becomes worthwhile!

Ours coincided with my car insurance renewal so now with RAC we added EU roadside recovery for an extra 75 covering both car and caravan - cover is for the year
What breakdown cover do you have in UK and can that be extended for your overseas trip?
Otherwise look at Green Flag single trip cover because with a Motorhome you don't need the same sort of cover as caravanners .

Green Flag can be cheaper (or the same price) for a full years cover, including Europe. I`ve just taken out a years cover for the same price AA wanted for 3 weeks Euro and their terms weren`t as good as Green Flag.Oh yes and you can pay for GF monthly.
Thanks for the replies. I have Green Flag personal cover already. This covers myself and Mrs. L for both our vehicles, and any other that we are travelling in. I'll see how much extra European cover will be.
C&MC were looking for £103 for a single 10 day trip (vehicle only). Most other providers are considerably less. We don't take the van to Europe very often as the cost from Scotland via Newcastle or Hull is expensive. (I'll play the poor pensioner card )
Off peak we can fly and stay in a hotel for the same or less. We just can't carry as much luggage.

I renewed my Green Flag cover last week and instead of buying standalone Euro cover this year in addition to my GF policy, I went for the GF Europlus. I always pay monthly and its going to cost me a couple of quid a month more. They cover caravans and trailers inclusive.

Out of any cheaper ones you look at don't use this lot.
------------- XVI yes?
As well is two words!
How does a sage know everything about everything? or does he? or does he just think he does?
Remember, if you buy something you bought it, not brought it.
Apologies if this has been covered before etc, but does anyone know of a provider that will supply a hire car with tow bar for onward travel etc? currently with Green Flag for cover and last year they said they did provide them and when I questioned this year i'm told no European hire company will provide one?
only wanting it in case of brakedown etc,
A hire car with a tow bar Overseas is highly unlikely - CMC Red Pennant will sometimes, but not always, provide one but in most cases and with most companies your car will be taken to a garage to be repaired, you can usually have a runabout hire car while you wait on a campsite and then you will continue.

Netherton is right. We have twice had a replacement tow car sent out from the UK by Red Pennant, but that was only when our car had totally died and all local options had been explored. In each case we were several days late getting back to the UK while we waited on this.
I hasten to say that these two occasions were 10 years apart and related to different cars.

We use Vehicle Rescue Direct for our car and camping trailer. We have had to use them once for our car breakdown which was fixed quickly enough. Full investigation once we were back in the UK at our normal garage.
Other UKC members do not like VRD but we have been treated well.

If a trailer/ trailer tent (don't know about caravan) needs to be picked up I expect it will be put onto a flatbed truck - probably winched on like a broken down car.
