Driving down from Calais to Moliets in a few weeks. I'm planning 2 stops, the first being Chartres. Would love some recommendations for a second stop halfwayish, Tours maybe. We will be camping in popups and will have enough time for some exploring for a cafe bar or two. Hoping to keep off the autoroutes and let the kids 13 and 15 see how we used to drive down. Basic sites are fine as long as secure.
Thanks in advance

Not sure if this is en route for you but we are having a few days at Camping Le Cormier in August. Haven't been before but the reviews are good and my interactions with the owners inspire confidence. Not much to do on the site there apparently which suits us down to the ground (we have four kids).
I hope things have improved at Chartres. If you are camping you will need to use the toilets and showers, and in recent years they were in a bad state. Try to find an up to date review.
After that you might like Camping Le Futuriste on the north side of Poitiers which does have good facilities , plus a welcome swimming pool which your children will like.
We were at Chartres a couple of weeks ago, there is no change in the sanitaires. Bad state is a bit of an exaggeration as they do get cleaned every day. However they could do with an upgrade and a few more toilets.
The N10 route from Chartes to Tours is quite a good one. We stayed at a site at St Avertin, on the south east side of Tours, my review is on here. We also stayed at Montreuil-Bellay a bit further on. Or Saumur has a number of sites.

If your going via the A28 then I can recommend the municipal at La Fleche on the outskirts of Le Mans.
It’s a lovely site with pool and excellent facilities on the banks of the river. It’s also amazing value at less than €20 including EHU for a couple in July.
We have used it a few times but have never booked in July and August
2 I would recommend for a night Halt are:-
1 Camping Municipal du Parc de loisirs at St Maure de Touraine
2 Camping Val de Boutonne at Saint-Jean-d'Angely
